Introduction to Marlin Masters OG

Marlin Masters OG is a casino slot from Hacksaw Gaming, taking us out to sea for another big catch. Fishing themes are pretty common in slot games, usually for their casual, relaxing setting, however, when Hacksaw Gaming decided to throw their hat in the ring, they went with a bit more of an extreme option. It all started in 2025 with the release of Marlin Masters, a fun slot experience featuring Marlins as the game’s Cash Symbols, which was followed by a handful of sequels, including Marlin Masters: The Big Haul and Marlin Masters Atlantis. While these games were fun sequels, we’re not dealing with that today, as Marlin Masters OG is actually a rerelease of the original 2025 game, just with a few, arguably confusing, changes, such as having one less row to play with on the playing grid. So, join us out at sea to experience what Hacksaw Gaming has cooked up this time in their OG version, which at least comes with the same max win of 7,500X the bet.

Marlin Masters OG delivers on a familiar gameplay loop with some minor changes, but still with a core focus on Marlin Cash Symbols and Multiplier Fisherman Collectors.

Theme, Gameplay, & Payouts

Marlin Masters OG is a video slot from Hacksaw Gaming with 5 Reels, 3 Rows, and 9 Paylines. You can choose between making a Min.bet of 0.1 and a Max.bet of 100. Marlin Masters OG comes with a slightly higher-than-average RTP of 96.25%, medium volatility, and an okay max win of 7,500X the bet.

As soon as we enter the game, we find ourselves on familiar waters, as this is the same setup as Marlin Masters from 2025. Set on a fishing boat, the playing grid is squared right in the center with a fishing rod propped up on each side, ready to reel in the wins. Visually, the game is just about the same, but still conveys its fishing theme well, albeit slightly unoriginal. You can play the game on most notepads, mobiles, and desktops.

The lower-paying symbols are 10, J, Q, K, and A. Creating a win with 5 of the same symbols will pay out 1X the bet. The higher-paying symbols are various colored fish, including brown, green, red, and blue. Landing a win with 5 of the same symbols pays out 2X to 10X the bet. Then we have the Special Symbols, which are the Wilds, Scatters, Marlin, and Fisherman Symbols, but more on these in the next section.

Final Thoughts on Marlin Masters OG

Marlin Masters OG is a confusing sequel, as it isn’t as much of an improvement on the original 2025 release, and, arguably, could be seen as a downgrade. When we first started the game, we couldn’t lie and say we weren’t a bit confused and surprised, since we had a hard time telling the two releases apart. Often, when we see rereleases or reskins, they’re usually either a deluxe edition or a holiday-themed version, but Marlin Masters OG doesn’t really do anything to stand out, except slapping on two extra letters in its title. Visually, the game is nearly identical to what we saw just a year prior, and even when it comes to gameplay, there’s next to no difference.

With that said, even though the gameplay is not exactly any different, we still enjoy it, just as we did when we checked out Marlin Masters last year. While the regular paytable isn’t all that exciting, the Marlin and Fisherman Collect Symbols are the highlights, thanks to both having high potential Cash Values and Multipliers up to 20X, which no one can really complain about. Then there’s the bonus games, which, if you know Hacksaw Gaming, you would know come in up to 3 versions, with the next being more volatile than the last. While pretty volatile and fun, we do feel like the only real thing that these bonus games add to the gameplay loop is the Progressive Level Bar.

We wish we had seen something more added, as even back in the original Marlin Masters, we thought everything was just a tad bit too simple, and would’ve loved to see something new added this time around, but instead we’re hit by a carbon copy, just with slightly different stats and a smaller playing grid. This means that, at the end of the day, we’re still not sure what the purpose of Marlin Masters OG was, as we have a hard time really recommending one release over the other, even though we think both games deliver on a great slot experience package.

Marlin Masters OG is a slot made by Hacksaw Gaming, which is a near-identical release to their 2025 release, Marlin Masters.
