Introduction to Marlin Masters: Atlantis

Marlin Masters: Atlantis is a casino slot from Hacksaw Gaming with another playful edition of their fishing series. Who knows where a fishing trip ends up? With a bucket full of fish? Or perhaps even finding a long-lost empire? Here, our Fisherman rows his boat into the gates of the mysterious empire of Atlantis for another edition of the Marlin Masters series, with previous adventures such as Marlin Masters and Marlin Masters: The Big Haul. This edition keeps the strong visuals from its predecessor and the familiar Marlin Symbols, with lower regular values, but with a chance to grab the Jackpot Max Prize of 10,000X the bet. We also get a visit from the new Kraken Symbols, which trigger a respin with a better chance of collecting both Marlin and Jackpot Symbols. Hacksaw Gaming has stayed true to the game’s core while introducing gameplay changes to make this release stand on its own. Regarding win potential, this release offers stats and overall experience similar to its predecessors, but with a splash big enough to keep us engaged. Continue the review, and let’s explore Atlantis.

Theme, Gameplay, & Payouts

Marlin Masters: Atlantis is a video slot by Hacksaw Gaming that features 5 reels, 4 rows, and 26 paylines. You can select bet sizes ranging from 0.1 to 100, with a default RTP of 96.27%, which is considered slightly above industry average. This game has medium volatility and offers potential wins of up to 10,000X your bet.

The game’s design is based on an Atlantis theme, featuring one of the ocean’s most powerful fish, the Marlin. The 5x4 game grid is set in the legendary empire of Atlantis, which seems to thrive with temples and treasure. The Mini, Major, Mega, and Max Win Jackpot are displayed on the screen’s left side, awarding potential payouts of 25X, 100X, 500X, and 10,000X the bet, respectively. If you want to boost the gaming experience for a cost, activate the Feature Buy button on the left side. All other buttons, including the Spin and Bet Size, can be found below the reels. You can play Marlin Masters: Atlantis on all mobile devices, desktops, and notepads. You create a winning combination by landing 3 or more of the same symbol types on adjacent reels starting at the leftmost reel.

The lower-paying symbols are 10, J, Q, K, and A. Landing 5 of the same symbol type pays 1X. The higher-paying symbols are green, pink, gold, and blue fish. Landing 5 of the same symbol type pays between 3X and 7.5X

The game’s Wild Symbol has the design of an anchor “W,” and creating a win with 5 Wild Symbols awards 20X the bet. The Scatter Symbol is the letters “FS”, and landing 3 or more will trigger the Bonus Game. The Marlin Symbol is the game’s cash prize with values ranging from 1X to 100X the bet, or one of the game’s Jackpots with values up to 10,000X the bet. The Fisherman Symbol will collect all Marlin Symbols in view and can appear with a multiplier value ranging up to 20X. Lastly, the Kraken Collector lands on reel 1 as a crown and turns into a Kraken, triggering a respin. Let’s find out what kind of features this game has to offer.

Kraken Symbol

Wild Symbol

The Wild Symbol substitutes all symbols except the Scatter, Marlin, Fisherman, and Kraken Symbols and helps you create winning combinations. Creating a win with 5 Wild Symbols awards 20X the bet.

Marlin Symbols & Lootlines

The Marlin Symbols can land on the reels with cash values of 1X, 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, 6X, 7X, 8X, 9X, 10X, 15X, 20X, 25X, 50X, and 100X the bet. It can also land as Jackpot Marlins: Mini, Major, Mega, and Max Win, awarding 25X, 100X, 500X, and 10,000X the bet, respectively.

Both the Marlin Symbols and Jackpot Symbols can be collected by either the Fisherman or when they are part of a LootLine.

LootLine is triggered by Marlin or Jackpot Symbols, creating a winning payline and awarding the collective value of all symbols in the combination.

Fisherman

Whenever the Fisherman Symbol lands on the reels, he will collect all Marlin and Jackpot Symbols in view after all potential regular paylines and LootLines have been awarded.

The Fisherman can land in view with a multiplier value of 1X, 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, 10X, 15X, and 20X, which is applied to the total cash value of all collected Marlin Symbols, but not the Jackpots. If several Fisherman Multipliers appear simultaneously, they collect the Marlin Symbols separately.

Kraken Collector

The Kraken Collector Symbol can only land on reel 1, triggering a respin. Before the Kraken Symbol expands and covers the entire reels, all regular paylines are paid. When the respins are triggered, all Marlin and Jackpot Symbols get locked in place while all other positions spin. Only blanks, Marlin, and Jackpot Symbols can land on the reels. Whenever a Marlin or Jackpot lands, it becomes sticky until the respins are over.

The respins continue until no Marlin or Jackpot Symbols land, at which point the total cash value in view is awarded.

Bonus Games

This feature can be triggered by landing 3 or more Scatter Symbols on the reels during the Base Game. The following Bonus Game can be triggered:

Sunken Empire

This feature can be triggered by landing 3 Scatter Symbols, awarding 10 Free Spins. It provides the same base game mechanics but with an additional Progressive Trident Bar above the reels. All Fisherman Symbols get collected in the bar, increasing by one step.

Every 5th collected Fisherman upgrades the Progressive Trident Bar to the next level, which are:

Level 1 = Awards +8 additional Free Spins and a Fisherman with a multiplier value of at least 2X.

Level 2 = Awards +8 additional Free Spins and a Fisherman with a multiplier value of at least 3X.

Level 3 = Awards +8 additional Free Spins and a Fisherman with a multiplier value of at least 5X.

Pose for Poseidon

This feature can be triggered by landing 4 Scatter Symbols, awarding 15 Free Spins.

This feature offers the same mechanics as the Sunken Empire feature, but with a more frequent Fisherman Symbol and thereby a higher chance of hitting different bonus levels.

Final Thoughts on Marlin Masters: Atlantis

This game provides a chance to explore the long-lost Atlantis with our Fisherman, who collects all Marlin and Jackpot Symbols in view! The Big Bass series from Reel Kingdom is probably still the most popular, but it seems like Hacksaw Gaming wants to compete and reel you in with another edition to the Marlin Masters series. Here, we get a playful vibe with an unusual expedition to Atlantis, which is a fresh take on a dated fishing theme.

So what makes this game stand out compared to its predecessors? Starting with the basics, the studio has kept the 5x4 game grid and medium volatility, but increased the paylines to 26. In terms of gameplay, the Collection mechanics are intact, featuring Marlin Symbols and Fisherman Symbols. However, in this release, the studio has rearranged the Marlin Symbol pay-outs, lowering the regular values to 100X the bet but adding Jackpot Prizes. The Max Prize Jackpot of 10,000X the bet is the highlight, but we would say the Marlin Symbols have kept its overall value as its predecessor, but with a bigger spread.

We also get a new friend in the Kraken Symbol, triggering a Base Game respin with a boosted chance of collecting Marlins and Jackpots, which is a nice touch from the provider that adds value. While testing the game, it is clear that Hacksaw Gaming has boosted the Base Game with additional features, but offers “only” two Bonus Games, with a weakened multiplier power of up to only 5X compared to 15X in Marlin Masters: The Big Haul.

In conclusion, Hacksaw Gaming has kept the series’ core with a fun Atlantis twist and a new Kraken respins feature. However, when the provider invests in a better Base Game, the Bonus Games lose power with weaker multipliers and “only” two Bonus Games. If you are a fan of previous Marlin Masters releases, it’s worth a try, but don’t expect a groundbreaking fishing trip as this edition sticks to familiar waters.

Marlin Masters: Atlantis is a slot that throws generous chum during the Base Game, such as Jackpots and a Kraken Respin, but doesn’t reel in any surprises compared to its predecessors.
