The back story is that the four clans try to reclaim Nitropolis, which Sergeant Nitro Wolf forced them out of. First out is Gritty Kitty, who is going back to the Nitropolis suburb Tokyotown in search of the weapon that could defeat Sgt. Nitro Wolf, the Golden Shuriken. A game stacked with features and two different bonus games is on the table. Let’s dig in!

The game takes place in a rundown Chinatown. Some sort of toxic gas is fogging the area, seemingly coming out of canisters on the top of a roof. When you trigger one of the bonuses, the scene turns into more of a purple color. It’s a bit unclear why, but it makes for a nice contrast. 

Gritty Kitty of Nitropolis can be played on all common mobile devices and desktops. A winning combination is created by landing 3 or more matching symbols on consecutive reels, starting from the leftmost reel. 

The lower-paying symbols consist of 10, J, Q, K, and A. A winning combination of 6 with one of these pays 0.3x the bet. During Assassin Spins, you can also land TnT symbols to explode the Feature Reel. This can drop down Nitro Reels containing several coins, Nitro Upgrades to increase the number of coins on existing Nitro Reels, and high-value coins. A golden collector is also available, which will collect all coins on the grid.

Landing 3, 4, 5, or 6 Scatter Symbols triggers 8, 10, 12, or 14 Free Spins, respectively. During Free Spins, Nitro Reels and Row Expansions are persistent.

Despite Pirots’ recent success and the possibility it overtakes Nitropolis, the Nitropolis saga must still be seen as ELK’s most legendary series. With four games released so far, the saga has constantly pushed boundaries mechanically and also potential-wise. They’re great at creating insane grids where it feels, or at least looks like it can explode and pay out millions on any spin. 

Gritty Kitty is no different from the previous ones in terms of evident potential. With a recipe of big blocks, nitro reels, and coins, there are plenty of ways that this one can pay. The coins mechanic is brand-new to the Nitropolis saga, but certainly not new to the industry. In fact, we feel like it’s getting a bit overused. The concept of using coins as a paying mechanic itself is not bad, as it makes it easy to see what you’re about to win, but we’re getting somewhat tired of this specific way of applying it where you get 3 re-spins that reset when you land a new symbol, etc. It was made really famous in the Money Train-series, and nowadays, pretty much every provider has a game with similar mechanics, so we struggle to get too excited when we see another one.  

However, when we look at this game as an isolated case, it’s a banger. For hardcore Nitropolis fans, the game is still staying true to the saga’s core with its regular bonus but also offers something we haven’t seen in a Nitropolis game before with the Assassin spins. Despite us having some complaints about ELK using a coin feature like this, it’s made interesting by the nitro reels and the potential they offer. For the first game in this upcoming series, we’re satisfied with what we got. We do, however, hope that they innovate a bit more on the gameplay in the next one.
