Introduction to Bear Patrol

Bear Patrol is a casino slot from Peter & Sons that takes us out to the woods to experience the best parts of nature. It wasn’t all that long ago since Peter & Sons took us out for some good old-fashioned camping in Roman Glory, just that, in that game, we were accompanied by a platoon of soldiers and the emperor himself. Now, instead, we join a fox and a badger on their patrol of the woods, looking for the bear wearing underwear and a scout’s sash. While the setting does sound a bit strange, it actually kinda works, though a bit silly, and that may be because of the game’s vibrant, fun graphics. Gameplay-wise, Peter & Sons deliver on one of their favorite mechanics yet again, Cascades, in a Cash Collect-centric game with a stackable Vault in the bonus game for potentially great payouts. While maybe a bit simple, Bear Patrol does offer a pretty good slot experience with a relatively volatile bonus game that can stack up Coin Prizes worth up to 1,000X the bet to help you hit the max win of 5,000X the bet,

Take a trip through the wilderness where bears hide valuable Coin prizes and fun bonus game spins.

Theme, Gameplay, & Payouts

Bear Patrol is a video slot from Peter & Sons with 6 Reels, 4 Rows, and 4,096 ways to win. You can choose between making a Min.bet of 0.1 and a Max.bet of 200. Bear Patrol comes with a slightly higher-than-average RTP of 96.25%, a hit frequency of 24.36%medium volatility, and an okay max win of 5,000X the bet. However, do take note that the max win probability sits at 1 in 16,666,667 spins, and comes in various versions with lower RTPs sitting at 94% and 91%.

The game is set in a small treehouse in the middle of the woods, with a few signs and the so-called vault hanging around out of reach of the bears. Coupled with the vibrant graphics is an upbeat banjo soundtrack that just hits right, along with some pretty typical slot sound effects. You can play the game on most notepads, mobiles, and desktops.

The lower-paying symbols are 10, J, Q, K, and A. Creating a win with 6 of the same symbols will pay out 0.4X to 0.5X the bet. The higher-paying symbols are various items and characters, including a box of matchsticks, a sling, a pocket flask, the fox with an eyepatch, and the badger with the hammer. Landing a win with 6 of the same symbols pays out 0.7X to 2X the bet. The Special Symbols are Wilds, Cash, Backpack Collect, and Scatter Symbols, but more on those in the next section.

Free Spins

Wild Symbols

Wild Symbols help form winning combinations by being able to substitute for all symbols except Special Symbols.

Cascade

After creating a winning combination, all winning symbols will be removed from the playing grid, allowing new symbols to fall in from above to potentially create new wins. Cascades will continue until no more wins can be made, thus ending the spin.

Cash Collect

Coin Symbols can land with a value ranging from 0.2X to 1,000X the bet, but can only payout if it lands with a Backpack Collect Symbol. If 4 or more Coin Symbols are present on the reels with no Backpack Symbol during an active Cascade, their values will instead be added to the Vault, and then be removed from the playing grid to free up space. The Vault will keep the values until either the end of the spin or until a Backpack Symbol lands, which will then collect and payout the accumulated Vault value.

Free Spins

By landing 3 Scatter Symbols, you will be awarded the Free Spins feature with 7 spins, with an additional +2 Spins per extra Scatter Symbol. During the bonus game, all Coin Values will instantly add their values to the Vault if no Backpack Symbol is present. The Vault doesn’t reset until the end of the feature, even if a Backpack Symbol lands and collects the value.

Through the feature buy you can instantly trigger features

Ante Bet

By turning on the Ante Bet, you increase the frequency of Backpack Symbols and increase your chance of triggering the Free Spins, but at a cost of increasing your current bet by 1.5X.

Feature Buy

80X = Awards the Free Spins feature with a random number of spins ranging from 7 to 13.

Final Thoughts on Bear Patrol

As usual with Peter & Sons, Bear Patrol offers a great presentation thanks to its visuals through great graphics and vibrant colors. While maybe not the most expressive game out there, it does carry a lot of charm, and we think that largely comes down to its slightly unique theme and setting. However, the studio instead leans back on a reliable gameplay loop that doesn’t do anything wrong but doesn’t really offer anything new, making the entire experience feel like a small, solid package that doesn’t step out of line.

If we want to talk about the gameplay in detail, then we do have to say that this is yet another Cascade release from Peter & Sons, and as we mentioned earlier, it is arguably one of their favorite mechanics, for better or for worse. While the spins work just fine as is, there isn’t really much happening in terms of features outside of Cash Collecting, as there’s no other impactful mechanic. The studio did try to do something interesting with the Vault, and while it can help mediate unlucky cascades, hoping you hit that Backpack Collect Symbol at the end, it usually isn’t too impressive during the base game. However, with the simple change of becoming persistent between spins in the bonus game, it becomes a somewhat consistent Cash Prize, making it just a bit more engaging. But, while Bear Patrol is a charming game, it doesn’t have much in the way of new features, aside from its Vault mechanic, which we have mixed opinions on. This leads to a gameplay loop we’ve seen before, and might not be enough to really keep us going for more.

Bear Patrol is a slot from Peter & Sons that comes with a great presentation right out of the gate, but with a not-so-interesting Cascade and Cash Collect mechanic gameplay loop.
