The original 2025 The Library release was a mixed bag, featuring some good moments, a solid feature line-up, and a somewhat interesting theme to boot. The Library Overdue then takes this idea and creates a more fulfilling game, with some more recognizable authors and monsters to boot. While not a graphical masterpiece, The Library Overdue steps away from its prequel’s strange setting for a more haunted vibe, and its graphics reflect the change, and it all fits quite well. However, at the end of the day, even if we want to commend Kitsune Studios, we know what they’re trying to hide behind its theme, another “book of” release.
This brings us to discussing the gameplay, and as we said earlier, while Kitsune Studios tries to pull a fast one on us, we know them all too well, and we won’t be fooled by yet another “Book of” formula. The Library Overdue, just as its predecessor, delivers on some pretty okay spins, but suffers from a weak paytable and not-so-interesting base game spins. So, while it feels and plays like a classic “Book of” release, we have to give Kitsune Studios credit for actually trying something new with the formula, building around it with the Stackway mechanics, and as such, it works fine at best. At the end of the day, we kinda enjoyed our time with the game, but can see its faults in its low payouts and reliance on Boosters, leading to the game feeling very high-risk, high-reward, which sadly isn’t for everyone.
