RIP City Slot Overview

RIP City is a new casino slot from Hacksaw Gaming in which we go to an alley and meet two characters who undoubtedly are inspired by a  cherished series of short films. We’re not gonna beat around the bush and pretend that this is an exciting guessing game where hidden clues can reveal what we are referring to. Once you load up this game, your mind will likely go to Tom and Jerry, but this is the adult version. We considered using Tom and Jerry terms & references throughout this whole review, but these cool creatures deserve to be mentioned by their actual names: Ro$$ the cat and Maxx the mouse. We know that Hacksaw can cook up some spicy games, and our expectations are high considering the setting. Let’s take a look!

Base Game

Rip City is a video slot from Hacksaw Gaming that features 5 reels, 5 rows, and 19 paylines. Players can choose between a Min.bet of 0.10 and a Max.bet of 100. The game has an RTP of 96.22% and a hit frequency of 18.22%, implying that, on average, you can expect a winning combination on almost every 5th spin. RIP City is played at medium volatility and has a potential max win of 12.500x the bet

As we are used to in Hacksaw slots, RIP City treats us with plenty of exciting aspects to explore. The features are Wild Symbol, Scatter Symbol, Wild Cat Symbol, Ro$$ Bonus, Maxx Bonus, and Bonus Buys

RIP City Slot Information

The game takes place in a dark alley. On the left-hand side, Ro$$ stands with his tongue out. He seems to have taken quite a bad beating but simultaneously looks ready to fight. However, in this fight, we’re not sure we would back him. Maxx is a badass dude, looking like he comes straight from Peaky Blinders. Of course, he had to be a smoker, but one cigarette wasn’t enough for him, so he has an extra in his hand. In his other hand, he has a green cup, and it’s a bit unclear whether it’s some sort of poison or booze. Oh well, we don’t really need to know, but he looks dangerous, nonetheless.

RIP City can be played on all common mobile devices and desktops. A winning combination is created by landing 3 or more matching symbols on consecutive reels within the game’s lines, starting from the leftmost reel.

The lower-paying symbols consist of 10, J, Q, K, and A. A full line of 5 with one of these pays 5x-10x the bet. The higher-paying symbols include bananas, skulls, dice, smiley, and billiard balls. Five-of-a-kind with these will pay 15x-20x the bet. The Wild symbols substitute for other paying symbols. Ro$$ is an expanding Wild symbol, and 3 or more Scatter symbols (FS) trigger the free spins feature.

Ro$$ Bonus

Wild Symbol

Wild symbols enable more winning combinations by substituting for other paying symbols.

Scatter Symbol

Landing 3 or 4 Scatter symbols triggers the Ro$$ Bonus or Maxx Bonus, respectively.

Wild Cat Symbol

Wild Cat symbols expand if the expanded symbol would be part of at least one winning combination. These expand downward, to the bottom of the grid. If a Wild Cat symbol expands through a Wild symbol, it turns into a multiplier that is applied to the whole expanded Wild Cat symbol. Wild multipliers can have the following values: 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, 100x, and 200x. If more than one multiplier is included in a win, the values will be added together.

Ro$$ Bonus

Landing 3 Scatter symbols will award 10 Free Spins in the Ro$$ Bonus. During this feature, you have a higher chance of landing Wild Cat symbols and Wild symbols than in the base game. Landing 3 Scatter symbols within the bonus game award 4 additional Free Spins, and 4 Scatters triggers the Maxx Bonus.

Maxx Bonus

Landing 4 Scatter symbols award 10 Free Spins in the Maxx Bonus. In this feature, each reel can be activated by landing a Wild Cat symbol on that reel. Once a reel is activated, a Wild Cat symbol is guaranteed to land on that reel on all remaining Free Spins. Landing 3 Scatters awards an additional 4 Free Spins.

Bonus Buys

If you want to add some extra spice to your session, there are 5 different Feature Buys:

3X = Each spin is 5x times more likely to activate a bonus game.
20x = Each spin guarantees that at least 2 Wild Cat symbols land.
50x = Each spin guarantees that at least 3 Wild Cat symbols land.
110x = Activates the Ro$$ Bonus
200x = Activates the Maxx Bonus.

RIP City Slot Conclusion

Cats and mice have been enemies since the beginning of time, and depictions like Tom and Jerry have certainly boosted the competition. Jerry always put up a good fight in that series, but Maxx might be cat’s biggest challenge yet. It seems like he has already landed quite a scratch or punch on Ro$$, and it looks like he’s out for more.

As is often the case with Hacksaw’s games, RIP City has a unique design. It’s not a standard 5x3 setup with generic visuals but a big grid with two frightening animals looking to fight. It’s a rare environment, and we really appreciate that. Of course, we are getting used to Hacksaw’s graphical layout since they have started to release games quite frequently, but it still feels refreshing every time since no other provider looks similar.

Gameplay-wise, RIP City doesn’t feel very innovative. Don’t get us wrong. The core features are not overused, but the expanding Wilds feel very similar to those of Book of Time. But in an industry where some mechanics are present in hundreds of games, we’ll let this one slide.

RIP City by Hacksaw introduces Ro$$ and Maxx, two nemeses who resort to all tricks in a heated battle.
