Neon West Slot Overview
Neon West is a casino slot from Yggdrasil that merges two completely different worlds in one action-packed setting. It's as if humanity had undergone rapid technological development around the late 1800s, but maintained its architecture and way of life untouched. Think the beginnings of Fallout minus 80 years, give or take. That's right, it's futuristic vibes meeting Wild West, and it's quite an intriguing premise, we must admit. Cowboys with pulse revolvers, sheriffs with holographic badges, and cyber Native Americans, it's all here. Together with the gripping atmosphere come several entertaining features, like Growing Wilds, two Free Spins modes with Sticky Wilds or Multipliers, and a Trail Bonus that will take players around a board game-style round with various rewards. Let's saddle up that mechanical horse and set off on a dusty trail for wins up to 5,500x the bet.

Neon West Slot Information
The first town we run into in this futuristic Wild West world makes quite a grim impression. It looks like the technology has not benefited humanity in a good way, as everything seems to be neglected and barely holding together. It's all desolate buildings, discarded weaponry, equipment, plus dirt and dust. The only signs of life come from a lonely saloon illuminated by a few lights outside and radiating a warm glow from between the iconic batwing doors. The grid sitting in the middle stands out from the surroundings with its clean, metallic frame and pulses of energy occasionally flowing through the panel. On it, winning combinations are formed from 3 to 4 matching symbols aligning on any active payline while using neighboring reels, starting from the leftmost one. Thanks to the game's universal, responsive design, the game can be played on desktops, smartphones, and tablets alike.
Two sets of distinct paying symbols populate the paytable. The low-paying ones appear as playing card suits, including clubs, diamonds, spades, and hearts, awarding 0.25x the bet for a complete payline. A sheriff, a female gunslinger, a masked gunslinger, and a cyber Native American represent the high-paying symbols, paying from 2.5x to 6.25x the bet when matching 5 in a combination. In addition, there are Wilds represented by a futuristic train that substitute for other regular symbols and award payouts up to 7.5x the bet. Scatters appear as a sheriff's badge, and they will trigger free spins if 3 or more land simultaneously.

What features are available in the slot Neon West?
The features are Growing Wilds, Free Spins, Trail Bonus Game, and Feature Buy.

Growing Wilds
Any Wild symbol landing on the grid will expand into a random direction, left, right, up, or down. It can grow by 1, 2, or 3 additional positions.
Free Spins
Landing 3 or 4 Scatters anywhere on the grid in the base game activates the Bonus Choice, in which players can select one of two Free Spins modes or the Trail Bonus. Picking Free Spins leads to two options.
Sticky Wilds = 6 Free Spins, where Wilds stay sticky after landing for the remainder of the bonus.
Multipliers = 5 Free Spins, where 3-8 random symbols will be covered with multipliers of x1-x5 at the beginning of the round. If that symbol participates in a win, the cover is destroyed and the corresponding multiplier fuels the total multiplier, which will apply to the total prize at the end of the bonus.

Trail Bonus Game
Selecting this option takes players to a board game with multiple fields through which they can travel. With 3 sparks available, each corresponding to one move (that can take from 1 to 6 steps), they will advance through the trail and collect prizes from the fields they land on. Crossing the starting point again awards 1 extra spark and increases all cash prizes by +3x. Trail positions can contain initial cash prizes of 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, or 6x the bet; some of them also award an extra spark, regular Streamliner, or Golden Streamliner. Streamliner triggers any of the additional features, while the Golden Streamliner triggers a persistent variant of them or the Collect All option.
Cash Prize = 15x - 30x the bet instant prize added to the total win.
Sniper = multiplies the value of 2-4 cash positions by x2. Persistent variant performs its action on every round.
Sheriff = adds 3x-5x the bet to each cash position. Persistent variant performs its action on every round.
Two Guns = adds 75x-125x the bet to 2-3 cash positions. Persistent variant performs its action on every round.
Refuel = an additional spark is added to more cash positions.
Throw Back = the current total win is added to random cash positions.
Collect = 4 following cash positions from the current player's position are collected.
Collect All = all cash positions on the board are collected.

Feature Buy
It's possible to trigger the Trail Bonus Game instantly for a fixed buy-in of 30x the bet. Free Spins cannot be purchased.
Neon West Slot Conclusion
Connecting two popular online slot themes (however different they could be) in one setting sounds appealing and original, although, surprisingly enough, we don't see such mergers too frequently. Yggdrasil picked Wild West and sci-fi for their scene, and it would have been a pretty unique approach if Relax Gaming had not done the same with the last 2 installments of their gunslinging saga, Money Train 3 and Money Train 4. Still, the environment in Neon West comes with a completely different vibe with all the gritty and dirty details. Four characters represented on the high-paying symbols also add plenty of flavor to the setting, almost painting a narrative of their own if you're keen on making your imagination run free. All in all, the presentation is genuinely captivating and shows that the creators poured loads of cool ideas into the design. The only part of the package that somewhat breaks protocol is an unusually upbeat disco soundtrack that does not reflect the dystopian atmosphere of the visuals.
From the technical side, it's hard not to keep pointing out similarities to the Money Train series in regard to the Trail Bonus Game in Neon West. Even though it's played in an entirely different way, the cash collection, special symbols, and their persistent counterparts inevitably trigger the connection. Also, the round itself could have been a bit more engaging when determining the number of steps the player is taking around the trail, like some futuristic glowing dice rolling through the screen. When it comes to two Free Spins modes, they center around common features, although the Multiplier variant takes a unique approach with the covers placed on the screen. However, it partially predicts the round's attractiveness from the start, depending on how many and how high multipliers you get.
Neon West is quite an experimental creation, both in the audiovisual and technical areas, which delivers an average gameplay experience dressed in a cool futuristic Western design.
