Introduction to Red Rascal

Red Rascal is a casino slot from Hacksaw Gaming, set in an amusement park run by devils and demons where souls are worth more than cash. Hacksaw Gaming is back with another rubber-hose style animation game themed around demons and devils, which is a genre of games that we feel like has been filled with some fun hits. The description might sound a bit specific and niche, but it’s something that the studio has been working on over the last few years, as seen with games like Six Six SixBooze Bash, and Pray For Six. Not to say that these are all the same game, as there aren’t many similarities outside of animation style, and Red Rascal is its own beast. Centered around Rascal Symbols, you’ll be awarded Respins that can end in two modes, pendelling between Coin and Wild Mode for each spin. Then there is the classic Hacksaw Gaming bonus games, coming in 3, increasingly volatile, variants with more and more bonuses tacked on to help you hit the max win of 15,000X the bet.

Come one, come all to the latest devilish attraction, where Pendulum Respins decide your fate and rewards, either in the form of Coins or Wild Paylines. If you want to check out the game for yourself, then be sure to give the Red Rascal demo a try.

Theme, Gameplay, & Payouts

Red Rascal is a video slot from Hacksaw Gaming with 5 Reels, 5 Rows, and 19 Paylines. You can choose between making a Min.bet of 0.1 and a Max.bet of 50. Red Rascal comes with a higher-than-average RTP of 96.34% and medium/high volatility, where wins and features can feel explosive in their payouts, and you might even have a chance to hit the max win of 15,000X the bet.

When you enter the game, you find yourself at an amusement park in the dead of night, and you will be met by the game’s main character, the titular Red Rascal, even though he might not be that red. He will be standing next to the playing grid, guiding you along the attractions with tickets in hand, ready to trade them for a piece of your soul. You can play the game on most notepads, mobiles, and desktops.

The lower-paying symbols are 10, J, Q, K, and A. Creating a win with 5 of the same symbols will pay out 1.5X the bet. The higher-paying symbols are a mysterious bottle, a devil, a pink book, a green triangle, and 666. Landing a win with 5 of the same symbols pays out 4X to 10X the bet. There are also a handful of Special Symbols, in the form of Wilds, Scatters, Rascals, and Coins, but more on these in the next section.

Free Spins

Wild Symbols

Wild Symbols help form winning combinations by being able to substitute for any symbols except Rascal and Scatter Symbols. Wild Symbols can only appear on the grid when the Wild Mode is triggered.

Rascal Respin

By landing 3 or more Rascal Symbols, the Rascal Respins bonus will trigger, making all Rascal Symbols sticky. The playing grid will continue to spin, either showing Dead Blank Symbols or Rascal Symbols, until no more Rascal Symbols land. If Rascal Symbols land in a square formation of 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, or 5x5, they merge to form a Colossal Rascal Symbol with additional bonuses. If you hit the 5x5 Colossal Rascal Symbol, the Max Win is immediately awarded.

When the Respins start, a pendulum will appear outside the playing grid with two modes, Coin and Wild. The pendulum will randomly start on one mode and switch back and forth with each Respin, and when the sequence ends, the selected mode is activated.

Coin Mode = Will turn all Rascal and Colossal Rascal Symbols on the grid into Coin Symbols, randomly turning into Bronze, Silver, or Gold Coins. Each Colossal Coin Symbol also receives a Multiplicative Multiplier and a minimum Coin Value.

Wild Mode = Will turn all Rascal and Colossal Rascal Symbols into Wild Symbols. After the transformation, a regular spin is triggered, during which all Wild Symbols stick to the playing grid. All Colossal Wild Symbols will also receive an Additive Multiplier, which will be added to any win it is part of.

Free Spins

The game comes with 3 variants of Free Spins, depending on the number of Scatter Symbols that triggered the feature. Each higher-level bonus game comes with the same mechanics as the previous bonus game, with new bonuses tacked on, and they are as follows:

3 Scatter Symbols = Ready To Riot Bonus Game, starts with 8 spins, and increases the chance of landing Rascal Symbols.

4 Scatter Symbols = After Dark Bonus Game, starts with 10 spins, and each spin, fewer than 3 Rascal Symbols land on reels, they will be collected in the new Popcorn Bucket outside of the playing grid. When the bonus game ends, all Rascal Symbols in the Popcorn Bucket will be added to the reels, up to a maximum of 25 Symbols, triggering the Rascal Respins.

5 Scatter Symbols = Ignite The Night Bonus Game, starts with 10 spins, and guarantees 4 or more Rascal Symbols on each spin. The Pendulum will be visible on each Free Spin, and will trigger at the end of each spin.

All Free Spins features can be retriggered by landing 2 or 3 Scatter Symbols during the bonus game, awarding +2 or +4 spins.

There are multiple Feature Buy options to switch between

Final Thoughts on Red Rascal

While this niche animation style that has been present in a handful of games takes clear inspirations from old-school creations, such as the debut of Mickey Mouse in Steamboat Willie, there’s no denying that many parts, both visuals and themes, of these games have been influenced by the game Cuphead, which even comes with the tagline “Don’t Deal With The Devil”. But, even so, Red Rascal feels different enough to be able to stand on its own two legs, and the amusement park itself has become a fine enough backdrop to the game. However, we don’t need to discuss visuals all day, so let us move over to talk about gameplay.

Starting with stats, the game comes with a solid RTP of 96.34% and a good max win of 15,000X the bet. From the get-go, it’s quite clear that this game is based around its Rascal Respins, and while we think that this feature is really fun and interesting, largely part of its Pendulum Bonus, and the possibilities for bigger wins through Colossal Symbols, it does kinda make the normal spins feel a bit lackluster. As not even Wild Symbols are part of the base game, creating paylines is as basic as it comes, which can make the time between features feel a bit like a drag. The Free Spins bonus games come in typical Hacksaw Gaming fashion, with 3 different types, which only get more and more volatile, and can lead to some great spins, but these spins are still centered around Rascal Symbols, and don’t try to step too much out of line. We had a great time with Red Rascal, and even though the game is mostly centered around Respin rewards, we feel the addition of the Pendulum bonus is enough to make the feature feel innovative, and definitely makes the game worthwhile to check out.

Red Rascal is a slot that brings out Hacksaw Gaming’s yearly, old-school devil-theme out, delivering on volatile Respin bonuses that can lead to Coin and Wild payouts.
