Introduction to Outlaw Rooster

Outlaw Rooster is a casino slot from NowNow Gaming set in the Wild West, however, with a feathery twist. NowNow Gaming is relatively new to the industry and, thanks to their partnership with Hacksaw Gaming’s OpenRGS, has made a small name for themselves through their fun themes and solid gameplay, as seen in releases like Penguin Royale and The Crime File. Speaking of themes, Outlaw Rooster is a bit of a weird one, as we’re more than familiar with the Wild West setting, but the studio decided to be a bit different and make all their chickens for some reason. But these are no regular chickens, and are instead a weird humanoid mix, but we digress. When it comes to gameplay, it’s all about Cascades and Multiplier Positions, not all too different from a handful of Hacksaw Gaming’s own releases. Added to this are the Outlaw Boosts, which are randomly triggered bonuses that can add Multipliers in various ways. So, while simple, Outlaw Rooster has a pretty familiar identity in both theme and gameplay loop, with a max win of 10,000X the bet.

NowNow Gaming delivers on Outlaw Rooster with a Cascade and Multiplier Positions gameplay loop.

Theme, Gameplay, & Payouts

Outlaw Rooster is a video slot from NowNow Gaming with 5 Reels, 5 Rows, and 3,125 ways to win. You can choose between making a Min.bet of 0.1 and a Max.bet of 100. Outlaw Rooster comes with a higher-than-average RTP of 96.37%medium volatility, and a solid max win of 10,000X the bet.

Set in the middle of a Wild Western town, we’re met by the main character of the game, a half-human, half-chicken that eerily reminds us of Obelix from Asterix and Obelix. However, outside of the weird characters, the game is a rather standard Cowboy-themed release. You can play the game on most notepads, mobiles, and desktops.

The lower-paying symbols are 10, J, Q, K, and A. Creating a win with 5 of the same symbols will pay out 0.3X to 0.5X the bet. The higher-paying symbols are a blue hat, a boot, a revolver, a cowboy rooster, and a cowboy chicken. Landing a win with 5 of the same symbols pays out 0.8X to 2.5X the bet. Then we have the Special Symbols, including Wilds and Scatters, but more on these in the Feature section.

Wild Symbols

Wild Symbols help form winning combinations by being able to substitute for all regular paying symbols.

Cascade

When a winning combination is formed, the winning symbols are removed from the playing grid, allowing new symbols to fall and potentially create new winning combinations. Cascades continue until no more wins can be made, thus ending the spin.

Multiplier Positions

After each winning cascade, the number of symbols that formed the win is counted. That same number of Random Multipliers, each with a value ranging from 2X to 5X, are placed on random positions across the grid. These Multipliers reset between spins, but will be applied to the full winning combination if a single or more winning symbols are on a Multiplier Position.

Outlaw Boost

After any Cascade win, there is a random chance to trigger the Outlaw Boost bonus, which comes with 3 random effects, and they are as follows:

Showdown Reels = Randomly selects one or more reels, granting all positions on the highlighted reels a random Multiplier value of 2X to 10X.

Crossfire Rows = Randomly selects one or more rows, granting all positions on the highlighted rows a random Multiplier value of 2X to 10X.

Ricochet Shots = Randomly selects 5-25 positions on the playing grid, awarding all highlighted positions with a random Multiplier value of 2X to 10X.

Guns Blazing Bonus

Landing 3 Scatter Symbols anywhere on reels 1, 3, and 5 triggers the Guns Blazing Free Spins with 10 spins. During the feature, all Multipliers persist throughout the bonus game until they are used in a Winning Combination.

There are various bonuses that can be instantly triggered through the use of the Feature Buy

Feature Buy

Through the Feature Buy, you can trigger various bonuses for a price based on the current bet.

3X = Triggers the BonusHunt FeatureSpins, making each spin 5 times more likely to trigger the Guns Blazing Bonus.

50X = Triggers the Outlaw Boost FeatureSpins, making each spin guaranteed to trigger at least one Outlaw Boost.

100X = Awards the Guns Blazing Bonus.

Final Thoughts on Outlaw Rooster

Outlaw Rooster is, at best, an okay game, as nothing it does gameplay-wise is particularly interesting or new, and its theme, while a fun idea on paper, isn’t really explored more than the weird chicken-human-hybrid character standing next to the playing grid. However, it also doesn’t need to reinvent the wheel or be especially unique, as it delivers a solid gameplay loop that can be fun to spin away at. Its theme, while we wish it had been a bit more fleshed out, is definitely a conversation starter and works as a way to entice players to check it out. However, when it comes to visuals, the game could definitely be a step up, as its sandy, nearly abandoned-looking town background and rather boring playing grid aren’t enough to really keep us invested.

Gameplay-wise, the game is a simple, Cascade-centric release with Multiplier Position mechanics, a tried-and-tested formula that many players love. Again, while it’s not anything new, it doesn’t have to, as its base core gameplay loop works well enough. The Outlaw Boosts help keep the spins somewhat interesting, but can at times feel just a bit too rare and situational to really make a big enough impact in the base game. It’s not until we get into the bonus games that things get a bit more interesting, as being allowed to stack Multipliers between spins is an exciting mechanic and gives you something to look forward to. As an example, you might be sitting on the edge of your seat waiting for just one small area of the playing grid to finally land a hit for a huge stack of Multipliers to trigger. All in all, Outlaw Rooster is an okay release with some fun ideas that, while not fully sticking the landing, come together into a potentially enjoyable experience.

Outlaw Rooster is a Chicken-and-Cowboy-themed release with a gameplay loop all about Cascades and Multiplier Positions, and while not the most original idea, it works well enough.
