Theme, Gameplay, and Payouts

King of Olympus is a video slot from Playtech with 6 reels containing 5 rows. There are no regular paylines in this game; wins are made by landing 8 or more matching symbols anywhere on the screen. The Min.bet is 0.1, and the Max.bet is 400. King of Olympus has an RTP of 95.47% and a max win of 5,000x the bet. The game provider has not disclosed the volatility.

King of Olympus is set in the sky, probably on top of Mount Olympus. A few white clouds are scattered on the blue sky, and two fires are burning in the bottom corners. The game’s blue logo sits atop the six reels, which are framed in gold. You’ll find the buttons to activate the Extra Bet and Feature Buy to the left, while the buttons to spin the reels and change your bet are to the right. To make a win, you need to land 8 or more matching symbols anywhere on the grid. The game is available on mobile phones, tablets, and desktop computers.

The lower-paying symbols in King of Olympus are triangles, hexagons, squares, and rhombuses. They pay between 0.4x and 0.8x the bet for a win of 12 or more symbols. The higher-paying symbols are scrolls, harps, cups, rings, and laurel crowns. They will give you between 1x and 5x the bet for wins of at least 12 symbols. There’s no Wild Symbol, but Bonus Symbols that can trigger the Free Games.

Collapse Feature

One spin can create several wins through the Collapse Feature. Whenever you score a win, and it’s paid to you, all winning symbols explode and disappear, giving way to new symbols that fill up the reels.

There’s a multiplier bar next to the reels. During the first collapse, the Fireball, with no multiplier moves to the arrow pointer and counts as an x1 multiplier. With every new collapse after that, the multiplier bar increases by +1, and the reels keep collapsing as long as new wins continue to appear.

When no more winning combinations are formed, all the total winnings from that spin are multiplied by the final value on the multiplier bar. At the start of every new spin, the multiplier bar resets to its starting position.

Fireball Symbols

There are 3 Fireball symbols in the game: the Multiplier Fireball symbol, which shows a multiplier value, the Mystery Fireball symbol, which has question marks on it, and the Free Games Fireball symbol, which awards between 2 and 5 extra spins in the Free Games.

Multiplier Fireball and Mystery Fireball symbols can appear during both the main game and the Free Games feature. Free Games Fireball symbols only appear during the Free Games.

A Fireball symbol is only activated if you score a win. Multiplier Fireball symbols can have values ranging from x3 to x500. When a Multiplier Fireball symbol is activated, its value is added to the multiplier bar. For example, if the current multiplier is x3 and two activated Fireball symbols show x5 and x15, the multiplier bar increases to x23.

When a Mystery Fireball symbol is activated, it reveals a random multiplier of up to x500, and that value is also added to the multiplier bar.

Free Games Feature

You trigger the Free Games feature by landing 4 or more Bonus Scatter Symbols anywhere on the reels. You’re awarded 10, 12, or 14 spins for 4, 5, or 6 Scatter Symbols. Special Fireball symbols with +2, +3, +4, and +5 can award extra spins during the feature. These spins are only given if the Fireball symbol is activated by a winning combination on the screen.

Unlike the base game, the multiplier bar does not reset between spins in the Free Games.

Flames

There are two flames placed on the left and right sides of the reels. During any spin in the main game or Free Games, these flames can launch Multiplier Fireball symbols onto the reels, placing them anywhere on the reels.

Extra Bet Mode

You can turn on the Extra Bet Mode in the base game for increased chances of triggering the Free Games. The Extra Bet increases your base bet by 20%, but it doesn’t affect the paytable.

You can buy a ticket straight to the Free Games for 75x the bet.

Final Thoughts on King of Olympus

King of Olympus tries to make you feel like a VIP guest on Mount Olympus, but sadly, it doesn’t try hard, and we’re left with the feeling of waiting outside while Zeus forgot our names. The ancient Greek theme has been around as long as slot machines have existed, and there’s nothing new in this release. The graphics also look pretty tired, like they were designed when the gods still used stone tablets for customer support.

The gameplay itself is decent enough with the cluster pays system, collapse feature, and Fireball multipliers adding some movement. The Free Games can also be entertaining, especially since the multiplier keeps growing instead of resetting. That part definitely saves the game from falling completely off the mountain. With a max win of 5,000x and an RTP of 95.47%, it doesn’t exactly scream “legendary riches.”

We wouldn’t be surprised if the game developer has found a lot of inspiration from Pragmatic Play’s Gates of Olympus and Play’n GO’s Rise of Olympus.

King of Olympus from Playtech feels more like a short tourist stop than an epic adventure among the gods. It has a few fun mechanics, but the weak graphics and underwhelming excitement make it hard to recommend.
