Oh boy oh boy. Pirots was released in early 2023 and quickly became one of the most popular slot games. Why? Well, we’ve been trying to figure that out ourselves. Perhaps it’s the crazy theme and its colorful nature, or the fact that you can grab a single coin and hit the max win. But our theory is that it’s all in the CollectR mechanic. There are all types of grids, paylines, and payways nowadays, but Pirots offered something completely new. People had never experienced a slot like it before, and we believe that it being different from everything else made it popular among so many. Thus, a sequel was inevitable, and at the time of writing this, Pirots 2 is about to hit the shelves. But that’s not what we’re here for today. Because shortly after Pirots 2, four new creatures are taking the stage. We introduce to you: Dam Beavers. Let’s dig in.

Dam Beavers is a multi-layered game, which is something we can’t recall seeing before in a slot game. Sure, there are games with changing landscape, but in this one, you dig deeper into what starts off as a cabin. This is not just pleasing to the eye as the environment constantly changes, but also adds a layer of excitement to see what comes next. This is one of the coolest grids we’ve seen in a slot, and we haven’t even checked out the features yet. 

Dam Beavers can be played on all common mobile devices and desktops. A winning combination is created by a beaver collecting a fruit in the same color as that beaver, adjacent to it horizontally or vertically. 

Symbols can be upgraded with the help of a feature, making them pay more. The lower-paying symbols include blue and green fruit. Collecting one of these pays 0.05x-7.5x the bet, depending on the symbol level. The higher-paying symbols consist of orange and red fruit. Collecting one of these pays 0.05x-50x the bet, depending on the symbol level. There are also a ton of other symbols on mechanics, but we’ll cover those in the features section.

CollectR

Dam Beavers uses the CollectR mechanic, introduced in Pirots. Basically, a green beaver collects any green fruit or feature symbol adjacent to it vertically or horizontally, a red beaver collects any red fruit or feature symbol, etc. 

Wild Symbol

Wild symbols substitutes for other paying symbols, so any beaver can collect them.

Scatter Symbol

The Scatter symbol comes in the form of a pie. Collecting 3 of them triggers the Free Spins feature.

Floorboards

Each position on the grid starts off covered. Like in Lost Relics, the block is destroyed by making a connection on it (in this case, walking over it with a beaver), activating various features. 

Feature Meter

Above the game grid there is a feature meter. You progress on the meter by collecting fruits and wilds.

At the end of the feature meter, three feature reward cards are shown. One card is face-up, and an additional card is then revealed each time the feature meter is filled. There are three different feature reward cards:

Wild Scatter - A random number of symbols on the grid are replaced by wilds.

Refresh Symbols - Replaces all current symbols on the grid.

Symbol Swap - Two random symbol types swap places, for example: all red symbols become green and all previously green symbols become red. 

Breaking Point

To progress and go further down, 2x2 breaking points are hidden beneath the floorboards. Fully revealing a breaking point unlocks progression to the next floor level. The higher the floor level, the bigger the prizes. 

TNT Symbol

A beaver picking up a TNT symbol causes a series of underground explosions that remove floorboards.

Firework Symbol

A beaver picking up a Firework symbol upgrades the beaver’s own collectable paying symbols to the next payout level. Symbols upgrade one payout level at a time up to a maximum payout level of 8. 

Coins

Large Coin symbols can appear under the floorboards. A coin is collected when it is fully revealed. Coins may overlap other coins. The top coin has to be collected first before the underlying coin becomes accessible. The coin value will be multiplied by your base bet to determine your winnings.

Passage

Passages are hidden tunnels under the floorboards. A revealed passage allows a beaver to move under the grid and appear on another random collectable symbol position elsewhere on the grid. A beaver may alternatively use a passage to swap position with another beaver. 

Beaver Night Fever

If you remove all floorboards from a floor level, the Beaver Night Fever is activated. All paying symbols drop out and new paying symbols drop in. The new symbols are upgraded to higher payout levels.

Free Spins

Collecting 3 Scatter symbols awards 5 Free Spins. The floor level, the progress on the feature meter, the payout level of the paying symbols, and the collection of additional Scatter symbols are all persistent during the remaining Free Spins.

3x = Triggers the bonus hunt, where you are more than four times likely to trigger the Free Spins feature.

10x = Triggers the eager beaver, where you start on floor level 2 and all paying symbols start at payout level 2.

Dam Beavers Slot Conclusion

Well, that was a Dam ride. You might be put off by the sheer quantity of features in the game, but although it’s a lot in text form, the game is not that difficult to sink your teeth into. 

Having done a fair bit of spins in Dam Beavers, Pirots all of a sudden looks more like a test project. Pirots will always have a special place in our hearts, but this one just has a lot more to offer. Recently, Lost Relics 2 was released, and when reviewing it, we wondered why those types of games where you unlock tiles for hidden treasures are not more common. It’s a very exciting mechanic that fits perfectly with a gambling game, as big treasures are what we’re after. 

We do think that this is a step up from Pirots, but we’re also happy that some things remain the same. The upgrading symbols can certainly pop off and the pirots, sorry, beavers, being able to swap places to allow for more connections is a needed mechanic. All of that is still there, yet it truly feels like a new game. You think we’re done with the praising? No. Because despite all of that, the gigantic Max Win coin is the best touch to this game. Missing a Max Win coin in Pirots was annoying, but we can foresee even greater annoyance from this one. You can be so close to fully revealing it, perhaps just one tile away, yet leaving without it. That might not sound like a compliment, but as we often say; the most fun games are the ones that make you feel the most upset, as you constantly feel close to winning big.
