Area Link Dragon Ascension is a casino slot from AreaVegas Games. This provider has already released an almost countless number of Area Link games, whose gameplay centres on a respin feature. The Dragon theme isn’t new either, since we’ve seen it in Area Link Dragon. This time, we go back to an apocalyptic setting with a burning sky and a mighty dragon looking furiously at us. Players of the previous game will recognize the surroundings, but the Area Link Feature has been upgraded with some extra goodies. Let’s take a closer look at them.

If you want to stare this dragon right in the eyes, you can do it by playing the free demo of Area Link Dragon Ascension at the top of this page.

Theme, Gameplay, and Payouts

Area Link Dragon Ascension is a video slot from AreaVegas Games featuring 5 reels, 3 rows, and 20 paylines. The Min.bet is 0.2, and the Max.bet is 50. Area Link Dragon Ascension has a solid RTP of 96.47%, and a max win capped at 5,000x the bet. The game’s volatility is high, and the hit frequency of 30.63% means that about 3 spins in 10 are winners.

Area Link Dragon Ascension takes us to a dystopian place. The sky is red, but not from a nice sunset, but rather from lava or another catastrophe. Intense music with violins is playing as you spin the five reels, which have six different dragon eggs above them. To the right is a red dragon looking at you with burning eyes, and to the left is the game’s logo above a display of the Jackpot prizes. To make a win, you need to land 3 or more matching symbols on one of the 20 paylines going left to right. All wins must start on the first reel to the left, and you can access the game on mobile phones, tablets, and desktop computers.

The lower-paying symbols in Area Link Dragon Ascension are 9, 10, J, Q, K, and A. They pay 1x the bet for wins containing 5 symbols. The higher-paying symbols are rings, necklaces, fires, gemstones, and treasure chests. They will give you between 2x and 5x the bet for a complete winline. The Wild Symbol is a dragon that substitutes all symbols except the Fireball Symbols. It’s also the game’s best-paying symbol, awarding 10x the bet for a 5-of-a-kind win.

Wild Symbol

The Dragon Symbol acts as a wild symbol. It can replace other symbols to help form winning combinations on paylines, but it can’t substitute for fireball symbols.

Whenever one or more fireballs appear on the reels, there is a chance to trigger the Area Link Feature. Each fireball moves up to the egg of the same color located above the reels. The specific mix of fireballs collected determines which dragon upgrades are awarded. If a symbol contains two fireballs, it will be added to both matching eggs, and the animations are just for entertainment purposes; they don’t affect whether the feature triggers.

The feature awards 3 spins and all fireball symbols lock in place. You can land blanks or fireball symbols on the reels, and each new fireball resets the respin counter to 3. Each fireball awards either a cash prize or one of the jackpots: Mini (10x), Minor (20x), Major (100x), or Grand (5,000x).

The feature ends when all positions are filled or when there are no respins remaining. Filling every position also awards the Grand Jackpot.

Green Dragon Upgrade

Every spin in the green dragon upgrade awards a random multiplier of 2x, 3x, or 5x. Yellow fireball symbols are multiplied one time when they first lock into position, increasing their value right from the start.

Purple Or Pink Dragon Upgrade

When the purple or pink dragon upgrade is active, a second grid is added. If both the purple and pink dragon upgrades are triggered together, you play the feature on 4 grids. Each grid runs independently from the others, and the feature only ends when every array has either used all its spins or filled all available positions.

Red Dragon Upgrade

Red fireballs can appear during the red dragon upgrade, instantly collecting all new credit prizes and jackpots as soon as they land. After the red fireball feature finishes, a yellow fireball is created in the same position.

Blue Dragon Upgrade

The value of each blue fireball is added to a random number of yellow fireballs. The same yellow fireball can receive added value from a single blue fireball feature more than once. After the blue fireball feature completes, a yellow fireball replaces it.

Orange Dragon Upgrade

On every spin, all landed orange fireballs have their prizes boosted by a random amount, allowing values to grow as the feature continues.

Dragon Ascension

This version of the Area Link Feature awards a random set of Dragon Upgrades.

Multiple Dragon Upgrades

If the purple and pink dragon upgrades are triggered together, the feature plays with four separate grids. When the green dragon upgrade is combined with the purple or pink dragon upgrade, the chosen multiplier applies to all new yellow fireballs across every array. If green is triggered with red, the multiplier applies to the yellow fireball created after the red fireball feature ends.

If green is triggered with blue, the multiplier is applied before the blue fireball feature takes place. When orange and green are triggered together, the prize boost is multiplied first before being applied. If red is triggered by purple or pink, the red fireball collects values only within its own grid. When red and blue are triggered together, all blue fireball features occur before any red fireball features. If blue is triggered with purple or pink, the blue fireball only adds value to yellow fireballs within its own array.

Area Link Dragon Ascension feels a bit like reheated pizza. It’s still tasty enough to eat, but you can’t help noticing you’ve had it before. The game clearly builds on the original Area Link Dragon, keeping the same core respin mechanics and dragon-filled chaos, while sprinkling in a few extra upgrades to make things feel fresher. The problem is that the upgrade is pretty small. You can now, if you’re really lucky, trigger a purple and pink dragon upgrade on the same spin, and play the respin feature on 4 grids, while you can play it on a maximum of 2 grids in the forerunner.

The graphics aren’t great either, but the developers still manage to create a spooky setting. The fiery apocalyptic scene with the angry dragon certainly set the mood, and the soundtrack does a good job of keeping the tension alive.

The RTP of 96.47% is respectable, and the max win of 5,000x the bet is decent, though not particularly groundbreaking considering the high volatility. For another fun dragon-themed game, don’t miss Push Gaming’s Dragon Hopper.

Area Link Dragon Ascension from AreaVegas Games is a competent but very familiar respin slot that leans heavily on its predecessor’s formula.
