Final Thoughts on 9 Thunderbolts
9 Thunderbolts isn’t exactly what we would call a new game, and that is to say that many of its elements are taken from games that were released many years ago. Just in the intro, we mentioned how the game draws inspiration for its theme from Gates of Olympus and the many other Greek-themed games, and its gameplay is very much that of a series that an entire studio built up its niche on. Of course, there are many clones and reskins out there, and 9 Thunderbolts isn’t either of those, but it also doesn’t feel original enough to actually be very interesting. However, if we look at it in a vacuum, it has some great visuals, but sadly, it’s definitely not something to write home about. So, to end the discussion on theme and visuals, we can move over to the gameplay section.
Starting with the stats, we got an average RTP of 96.04% and a solid max win of 10,000X the bet. As you probably would’ve imagined, the gameplay loop is mostly centered around the Thunderbolt Prize Ladder, as in the base game, the regular payline paytables are just not that great, as the highest sits at 10X, which is the same as landing 5 Thunderbolt Symbols. We’ve seen the Prize Ladder mechanic before, and there are many players out there that love it, but we’ve never really seen anyone try to actively make it interesting or innovate on it. This makes the base game spins rather dull, as most wins are pretty small, but the Free Spins bonus game can offset this with a Multiplier, that is, if you get a good one. Paylines and the paytable as a whole get a lot more interesting during the Free Spins feature if you’re sitting on a 5X Multiplier, and the fact that you get quite a lot of spins is not half bad, but not enough to really get us excited.
