When it comes to providers that manage to break through the white noise of repetitiveness with their creativity, Print Studios must be one of the very few in the forefront. Despite being a relatively young outfit compared to the industry veterans, they shined brightly with numerous releases that mixed engaging mechanics and original themes enveloped in stellar audiovisual design. The magical atmosphere conjured in Pine of Plinko, spine-tingling vibes in Dreadworks, and intricate gameplay in Reapers are only a few prime examples of that team's universal skills. Another title that charmed players with its unique and humorous setting is Holy Hand Grenade, an explosive, beautifully crafted slot operating confidently on a popular mystery symbol mechanism with added spreading capabilities. Today, we have the pleasure of speaking with Carl Wiggman, CEO at Print Studios, about the upcoming sequel, Holy Hand Grenade 2 Dream Drop, scheduled to launch on the 27th of August 2025 via the Relax Gaming platform.

Q: Hello, and thank you for joining AboutSlots in this Q&A. When it comes to Print Studios, it's almost impossible to pick one favorite game since all are so well made and original, but Holy Hand Grenade must be one of those that I return to most often. How was it received by the players compared to other titles in your portfolio?

A: Thanks yourself! Holy Hand Grenade had a bit of an unconventional performance profile as it didn’t launch with anything incredible in terms of stats. Not bad, but nothing crazy either. However, players stuck with it, and years down the line it even started growing. Its one of our top games now with a pretty balanced split among base game rollers and bonus buyers.

Q: We know that the iconic scene from Monty Python was the inspiration for the theme, but is there anything else that fueled that elaborate scene?

A: Yep that was the main one, but otherwise Worms was a big one, especially the sound aspect (HAALLELUJAH before explosion). During our research, we found dozens of references to Holy Hand Grenades in games and movies, but nothing was as punchy as those two.

Q: Given the relatively common mechanism of mystery symbols, albeit masterfully executed, do you think it's the theme that spurred the game's success?

A: We always say a game is only as good as its weakest link and think that applies here more than ever. All gameplay aspects (graphics, mechanics, math, sound) are technically unique but not completely unfamiliar, so I think its about an overall production that hit the spot.

Q: Are mystery symbols still going to be the core mechanism in the sequel?

A: Yeah, on the whole we’re looking to upgrade the experience, not disrupt it. Think about makes for the greatest HHG explosions ever and you might be thinking in similar lines to us....

Q: SuperSpinners felt like an essential element of both the base game and the bonus round. Will we see them again in the second installment?

A: Yup!

Q: Can you reveal anything around any new features?

A: The base game will have an extra feature, either via dream drop or without it, depending on which version you’re playing. That will be something new, but as a base game feature, we haven’t put all the RTP there, of course. There will also be various other new machinations, our dynamic scatter boost being one, around the gameplay that we’re hoping players will love.

Q: What about the backstory? What path has the eccentric preacher followed, and how will his actions impact the reverent citizens?

A: All shall be revealed for those pious enough to tread the path! As we know, the crazy bishop of Holy Hand Grenade saw the unfiltered divine in the moment of explosion, essentially starting his own branch of religion in a rural medieval town. While the locals found it all a bit overwhelming, the local goats seemed weirdly interested. As the quest moves on to bigger and better avenues, it’s not entirely clear who leads who...

Q: Will we meet any new unexpected characters? The goat in the original was quite a view during the bonus round.

A: Yes, our Bishop might have met some new friends along the way, and the goats just keep coming it seems.

Q: Did you find working with Dream Drop jackpot challenging in this production? Jackpot contribution tends to eat a good chunk of the game's RTP, so balancing that must be quite a task.

A: Yep, always a “thing” with jackpots. This time however, we specifically chose to work with Dream Drop for this title cause we saw a “space” for it in the RTP if you will, with the aim to spice up the base game, which can be a tad dry in the original. It also helps a bit that Dream Drop covers the full range of wins, from tiny to fantastic, meaning you can build solid excitement without blowing the RTP budget if you have fun mechanics and good math.

Q: Many games on the Relax Gaming platform have been re-released with the Dream Drop jackpot. Would you consider doing that with Holy Hand Grenade as well?

A: Not planned at the moment no.

Q: Are there already any plans to turn this title into a trilogy?

A: Hah! Let’s just see what you think about the second one before we jump ahead that far.

Thank you. We appreciate taking the time to talk about the explosive sequel and wish you success in breaking all performance records with this title!

A: Massive thanks to you and your insightful community as well, always a pleasure!
