Gargantoonz Slot Overview

Gargantoonz is a new casino slot from Play’n GO in which we return to Dr Toonz laboratory and meet his latest project. 

If we were to name the most classic online video slots of all time, there are three titles that spring to mind. Book of Dead, Starburst, and Reactoonz. Book of Dead and Starburst became popular due to their simplicity while also offering players stronger graphics than the really classic, land-based slot games, such as Book of Ra. Reactoonz, however, rose to popularity due to its enormous innovation, where normal grid sizes and paylines were scrapped. After that, we saw the Garga in many different versions; even Dr Toonz himself got a game. So what’s the backstory in this one? Well, apparently, Dr Toonz successfully forged a small one-eyed Gargantoon. With plans to introduce him to Reactoonz society - DR Toonz plans to conduct a series of prize-winning experiments on the lucky Gargantoon. Let’s see what he has cooked up.

Gargantoonz is a new casino slot from Play’n GO with a setup of 7 reels and 7 rows. To make a winning combination, you need 5 or more symbols in a cluster. Players can choose from a wide range of bet sizes, with a Min.bet of 0.10 and a Max.bet of 100. The game as a default RTP of 96.2%, but there are also versions of the game with lower RTP. Lastly, Gargantoonz is played at mid-high volatility and can net you a max win of 7000x the bet. 

As expected, Dr Toonz has forged some exciting mechanics to keep you entertained in the hunt for Garga. The features are Wild Symbol, Fluctuation, Discharge, Experiment Charger, and Gargantoonz. 

Gargantoonz Slot Information

Graphically, Gargantoonz doesn’t move the saga forward that much. It looks great, and it has had a nice revamp, but it’s not an enormous step up from the previous game. A thing we do appreciate, though, is the intro screen. Play’n GO is one of, if not the best provider in the business when it comes to that particular aspect, and it adds another layer to their games. 

Gargantoonz can be played on all common mobile devices and desktops. A winning combination is made by landing 5 or more matching symbols in a cluster.

The lower-paying symbols consist of one-eyed creatures. Five-of-a-kind with these pays 0.1-0.2x the bet. The higher-paying symbols include two-eyed creatures. A winning combination of 5 with these pays 0.5x-1x the bet. Worth noting is that the payout of the symbols drastically increases the more you have in one cluster. There are also orbs present. These act as Wild symbols and substitutes for other paying symbols.

What features are available in the slot Gargantoonz?

The features are Wild Symbol, Fluctuation, Discharge, Experiment Charger, and Gargantoonz.

Wild Symbol

Wild symbols enable more winning combinations by substituting for other paying symbols. 

Fluctuation

On each spin, a lower-paying symbol is randomly chosen. If you create a winning cluster with that symbol type, 1-2 Wild symbols appear on a spot where a symbol was removed.

Discharge

On any non-winning spin, 4 to 8 Wilds may be added to the grid randomly.

Experiment Charger

On the right-hand side of the grid, you can see the Experiment Charger. To activate it, you need to make winning combinations with 20 symbols. When filled, one of the following experiments perform its action:

Gamma Ray Burst

7 to 9 Wilds are added to the grid. Winning Wilds count the number of symbols in their clusters before removing and counting all instances of the same symbols. 

Additionally removed symbols are counted once even if there are multiple winning clusters with the same symbol type. When the symbols are counted, the Wilds leave the grid immediately and charge the experiment charger.

Black Hole

4 to 6 Wilds are added to the grid. Winning Wilds count the symbols in their clusters and remain on the grid until there are wins. When all winning cascades are done, Wilds collect all horizontally, vertically, and diagonally adjacent symbols and leave to charge the experiment charger. 

Symbols removed by an experiment Wild effect are counted only once. If 3 or more Wilds are in the same cluster, they trigger their effect immediately, leave the grid and charge the experiment charger instead of remaining on the grid. 

Supernova

3 to 5 Wilds are added to the grid. Winning Wilds count the symbols in their clusters, remain on the grid if there are wins, and step one diagonally on each new cascade if possible, but they may not intersect.

When all winning cascades are done, Wilds move 8 steps in any possible direction, collect symbols in their path and leave to charge the experiment charger. 

If 3 or more Wilds are in the same cluster, they trigger their effect immediately, leave the grid and charge the experiment charger instead of remaining on the grid. 

Gargantoonz

When an experiment is ongoing, only the Wilds add to the Experiment Charger with their symbol values. After the first experiment activation, 40 Symbols are needed to charge up the Experiment Charger. If you get 40 additional symbols, it will overcharge the charger and increase the Gargantoonz multiplier by 1. 

Each successful experiment charges the Gargantoon charger and makes the Gargantoon evolve. If all 3 experiments are successful, the Gargantoonz feature triggers.

The Gargantoonz feature appears in 3 different steps. 

1st Step: Eight 1x1 Gargantoon Wilds appear on the grid. 

2nd Step: Two 2x2 Gargantoon Wilds appear on the grid.

3rd Step: One 3x3 Gargantoon Wild appear on the grid. 

After all winnings are paid out during a step, the Gargantoonz will merge, so you won’t see all of the variations above simultaneously.

Gargantoonz Slot Conclusion

Like in any sequel to a fan favorite, the expectations are high. Few titles are as recognizable in slots as the Toonz, and even though some of the previous sequels have not lived up to expectations, it’s always fun to give them a twirl. Despite Reactoonz, Reactoonz 2 and Gigantoonz functioning in different ways, it’s always been about that last round when the big Garga hits. 

Play’n GO is sticking to that here, but we are pleased to say that we enjoy the build-up in this one more than in the previous games. The problem that both Reactoonz and Gigantoonz have is that the features you grind up and activate sometimes don’t help you. In fact, they often tend to ruin a good setup. That’s always a bummer, as a feature you grind for should feel rewarding. In Gargantoonz, the Experiment Charger features feel very powerful. They regularly put out many Wilds and create beautiful clusters, so there’s always excitement when it happens (unlike when you get Demolition in Reactoonz). That doesn’t necessarily mean that it is easier to trigger the Garga, but the journey toward it is eventful.

Overall, Gargantoonz might just be the most complete game in the series, but we might not ever see one of the Toonz games reach the hype that Reactoonz did.
