Introduction to Cougar Blitz
Cougar Blitz is a casino slot from Playtech that blends a classic nature theme with old-school gaming. Playtech seems to be longing for brick-and-mortar slot cabinets, as Cougar Blitz is one of the simpler and more traditional releases we’ve seen in a while. While its visuals and theme aren’t much to speak of, it does give off the old-school vibes and is at least a little bit more interesting than the gameplay. Cougar Blitz comes with two features, those being Wild Symbols and a Free Spins feature with Multiplier Wilds. While the game does sport quite a bit of volatility and the potential for big wins, with a max win of 10,000X the bet, its spins can be a bit too simple for a modern audience. Join us as we explore the wilderness in search of volatile spins and big wins, and as Cougar Blitz is quite a straightforward game, this will be over relatively quickly.
Playtech delivers on a traditional release with one of the simplest gameplay loops you can experience.
Theme, Gameplay, & Payouts
Cougar Blitz is a video slot from Playtech with 5 Reels, 4 Rows, and 4,096 ways to win. You can choose between making a Min.bet of 0.4 and a Max.bet of 140. Cougar Blitz comes with a slightly lower-than-average RTP of 95.94%, high volatility, and an okay max win of 10,000X the bet.
Set in the North American wilderness, the scene features a mountain backdrop and a playing grid filled with various animals. Coupled with this is a thematic soundtrack and relatively standard casino sound effects to help immerse you in the game. You can play the game on most desktops, mobiles, and notepads.
You create a win by landing 3 or more of the same symbols in adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel, which creates a payline. The lower-paying symbols are 9, 10, J, Q, K, and A. Creating a win with 5 of the same symbols will pay out 2.5X to 3.75X the bet. The higher-paying symbols are various North American animals, including the snake, fox, owl, deer, and cougar. Landing a win with 5 of the same symbols pays out 5X to 7.5X the bet. When it comes to Special Symbols, we only have Wilds and Scatter, and we will go over them in the next section.

Final Thoughts on Cougar Blitz
Cougar Blitz finds itself in a weird spot, as it could be seen as a love-letter to old-school classics, or as a lazy put-together game made to reach a quota. While we don’t believe the game to be the latter, we’re not so sure how much we believe in the former either, as only a month after Cougar Blitz was released, it became reskinned into Grizzly Blitz, with very few differences aside from theme and setting, making an otherwise unique modern classic feel a bit more like a foundation for a recurring formula. While we do enjoy these games’ visuals and themes, they aren’t very impressive, especially to a modern audience. However, we do believe that they help sell home the classic experience.
When it comes to gameplay, there’s next to no learning curve or depth to experience in Cougar Blitz, and that can feel a bit weird to players more used to feature-packed games. The gameplay loop boils down to regular spins and paylines, with the occasional Wild helping form winning combinations, which some may even feel can be quite primitive, as there are no bonuses or cash prizes to be won. However, we won’t deny that the Free Spins feature, which can award up to 100 spins at a time and includes Multiplier Wild Symbols, can be quite volatile. So, for those who aren’t interested in flashy effects, complex mechanics, or feature-packed releases, Cougar Blitz might be something worth checking out, as its volatile spins and max win of 10,000X the bet could be fun to hunt.
Cougar Blitz is a traditional slot release with gameplay akin to old slot cabinets, sporting a volatile Free Spins bonus game as its main feature.
