Introduction to Cash Fortress

Cash Fortress is a casino slot from Playtech that invites us to a city-wide festival. Set in a Mexican town where every street is lively, Cash Fortress is a rather simple game in its visuals and theme, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. While Mexican settings are often used in slot releases, as seen with games like Hot Pepper or the Esqueleto Explosivo series, they’re usually fun and vibrant, incorporating the theme into their gameplay. In Cash Fortress, while its title doesn’t sound very fitting to its theme, it’s actually titled after the Cash Fortress feature in the game, a Cash Respin bonus game with prizes and Jackpots. As you might have been able to guess, this is the main feature in the game, even being able to trigger four independent bonus games at the same time. Outside of this feature, we have Mega Reels Free Spins and Expanding Wild Symbols to help hit regular payline wins, and all of these features come together to help us on the hunt for the Grand Jackpot and max win of 2,000X the bet.

Playtech delivers a Mexican-themed release, with the titular Cash Fortress bonus game as the star of the show.

Theme, Gameplay, & Payouts

Cash Fortress is a video slot from Playtech with 5 Reels, 3 Rows, and 20 paylines. You can choose between making a Min.bet of 0.1 and a Max.bet of 500. Cash Fortress comes with a slightly lower-than-average RTP of 95.9%, medium volatility, and an okay max win of 2,000X the bet.

As mentioned earlier, Cash Fortress is set in a lively Mexican town, where we are also being shown around by a dancing lady, who takes the role of the Expanding Wild Symbol. Outside of that, we have a pretty big outlier, that being the Vault feature, which takes up a surprising amount of visual space and feels a bit like clutter that can take a while to get used to. You can play the game on most notepads, desktops, and mobiles.

You create wins by landing 3 or more of the same symbols in adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel, thus creating a payline. The lower-paying symbols are various fruits and berries, including grapes, cherries, bananas, lemons, and pineapples. Creating a win with 5 of the same symbols will pay out 1X to 1.5X the bet. The higher-paying symbols are standard casino game symbols such as a BAR, Bell, Diamond, and a 7. Landing a win with 5 of the same symbols pays out 2X to 10X the bet. We also have a range of Special Symbols, including Wilds, Scatters, and Coin Symbols, but more on these in the next section.

Wild Symbols

Wild Symbols help form winning combinations by being able to substitute for all symbols except Scatter and Coin Symbols. If a Wild is part of a winning combination, it will expand across the entire reel.

Coin Symbols

Coin Symbols can appear on all reels, with prizes including Cash Values of 0.5X to 50X, or a Mini (20X), Minor (100X), or Major (500X) Jackpot. However, Coin Symbols can only pay out in the Cash Fortress bonus game.

Free Spins

By landing 3 or more Scatter Symbols, you will be awarded the Free Spins feature with 6 spins. During each spin in the bonus game, a Mega Reel will take over 3 reels with one massive symbol that counts as 9 individual symbols.

Cash Fortress

By landing 6 or more Coin Symbols, you will be awarded the Cash Fortress feature with 3 Respins. During the bonus game, all Coin Symbols are held in their positions, resetting the spin counter each time a new one lands, and if you can fill the entire board, you will be awarded the Grand Jackpot of 2,000X the bet.

Vault Bonus

Whenever one or more Coin Symbols land, they will be collected into the Vault, which has a random chance to burst open, awarding one of the following:

Grand Jackpot = Awards a prize worth 2,000X the bet.

Double Cash Fortress = Awards the Cash Fortress bonus game played on two independent playing grids.

Triple Cash Fortress = Awards the Cash Fortress bonus game played on three independent playing grids.

Quad Cash Fortress = Awards the Cash Fortress bonus game played on four independent playing grids.

Final Thoughts on Cash Fortress

Cash Fortress is a vibrant and fun release, but one that doesn’t try to be all too standout or unique, for better or for worse. While we did say we enjoy its theme and setting, Cash Fortress doesn’t really do much with them, especially since its title and massive Vault mechanic feel very disconnected from the rest of the game, which does break our immersion a bit. Outside of that, the playing grid is filled with old-school traditional symbols, so the game’s visuals feel a bit all over the place, and we wish we saw a stronger thematic vibe.

Following a similar critique, Cash Fortress’s gameplay loop feels, at times, a bit too repetitive and simple. We say this because a large part of the game is spent sitting in the base game, waiting for one of the many bonus games to trigger, as there are no real features that really feel impactful in the base game. Even so, its bonus games are relatively basic, with the Free Spins being a bit of a coin toss, with its Mega Reels and the titular Cash Fortress feature feeling like any other Cash Respins bonus game. The real potential in the game lies in the Vault Mechanic, as hitting Triple or Quad Cash Fortress bonuses can definitely be exciting, or you might even just hit the Grand Jackpot instantly. But sadly, the Vault mechanic is a bit too random, making it inconsistent and struggling to carry the rest of the game. All in all, we feel like Cash Fortress isn’t a bad game, just one with a few basic bonus games, where its real potential is hidden away in a randomly triggering bonus that, even if triggered, is just more of what you’ve experienced before.

Cash Fortress is a vibrant slot release with a focus on its titular Cash Fortress bonus game, with a couple of supporting features such as Free Spins with Mega Reels.
