Introduction to Bullion Bank

Bullion Bank is a casino slot from Northern Lights Gaming with a traditional bank-heist concept set firmly within a vault filled with gold, cash, coins, and so many shiny items that even a magpie would be nervous. Bullion Bank takes us to a proper bank vault with blue steel walls, stacks of gold bars and a solid safe surrounding the reels. The game’s main feature is a series of coin-based features intended to increase cash prizes. There is also a substantial max win of 14,537x the stake, which adds a bit of excitement to the game. Although the volatility is medium, keeping the game from becoming entirely wild, the feature mechanisms give the reels plenty to do when the correct symbols come up.

Theme, Gameplay & Payouts

Bullion Bank is a video slot from Northern Lights Gaming with 5 reels, 4 rows, and 20 paylines. The Min.bet is 0.2, while the Max.bet is 15. The game has an RTP of 96.16% and a hit frequency of 36.43%, with medium volatility keeping the overall experience somewhere between calm and chaotic. Bullion Bank has a max win of 14,537x the bet.

The game’s five reels are placed within a big steel vault door, with stacks of gold bars on either side and heaps of cash and coins positioned above the reels. The blue metallic background gives the entire setup a cool, industrial atmosphere, whereas the gold and dollar symbols provide good contrast. On the left side of the screen, there are buttons for Fever Boost, Charged Bet and Buy Bonus, and on the right side, the normal spin controls are found. You score wins by landing 3 or more matching symbols on one of the 20 paylines, going left to right. All wins must start on the leftmost reel, and the bank vault is available when using mobile phones, notepads and desktop computers.

The lower-paying symbols in Bullion Bank are J, Q, K, and A. They pay 3x the bet for 5 matching symbols. The higher-paying symbols are gemstones, bank cards, dollar stacks, and diamonds, which pay between 5x and 10x the bet for five of a kind. The Wild Symbol can substitute for the regular symbols to help complete winning combinations, although it does not replace the special symbols.

Wild Symbols

Wild Symbols take the place of the ordinary symbols, helping you to form winning combinations on paylines. They don’t substitute the special symbols.

Coin Symbols

Coin Symbols appear in the base game and show a cash prize when they come to rest. Instead of just disappearing after displaying their value, they can join the Money Pile.

The Money Pile

The Money Pile is formed by obtaining Coin Symbols. The pile grows by landing extra Coins, and the Coin Symbols that have been collected are kept in it until the Collect Symbol appears.

Exploding Piggy Symbols

The Exploding Piggy Symbol is one of the more enjoyable features in the base game. When it comes up, it causes between two and four Coin Symbols to appear on the Money Pile.

Multiplier Symbols

Multipliers can appear in the base game and have the effect of multiplying all the visible Coin Symbols by 2x, 3x, 5x, 10x, or 100x. The multiplier does not cover Mystery Coins.

Mystery Coin Symbol

The Mystery Coin Symbol appears in the base game and is picked up and added to the Money Pile. Its value is not known right away, since it shows a random cash amount when the Collect Symbol gathers it up, which adds a certain amount of suspense to what would otherwise be a quite predictable collection of coins.

Collect Symbol

In the base game, the Collect Symbol appears on reel 5 and gathers all the visible Coin Symbol values. After all the symbols have been collected, the Money Pile is emptied and the feature resets.

Scatter Nudging Respin

If two Scatter Symbols land on the top three rows, the Scatter Nudging Respin is activated. The reels which have Scatters are kept in place and moved down by one row, while the other reels carry out a respin. This process continues until a Scatter has reached the bottom row.

Banker's Bar

The Banker’s Bar becomes fully charged after 20 Scatter tokens. When it is filled, the Double Dollars Extra Life is unlocked, which can be helpful in the Double Dollars Bonus.

Double Dollars Bonus

The Double Dollars Bonus is played on a 5x6 grid. You trigger the feature by landing 3, 4, or 5 Scatter Symbols. If you trigger it with 3 or 4 Scatters, you start the feature with one or two of the top rows locked. If you trigger it with 5 symbols, all rows are unlocked from the start. The feature starts with three respins, or four if the Double Dollars Extra Life has been unlocked.

While the bonus is in progress, all empty positions will spin while all symbols stay in their positions. Whenever you land a symbol, you reset the respin counter, and every new Bullion symbol awards the cash prize currently available from the Banker's Vault. This prize amount increases after each award, so that the feature becomes more valuable over time as more Bullion lands.

Landing 2 Key Symbols will unlock a row. If you unlock all positions, a further Key that can unlock one of the jackpots may appear. The Grand Jackpot is activated when all of the positions have been filled with Bullion Symbols. The feature ends when all the positions are filled with Bullion or when the respins have been used up.

Fever Boost

Fever Boost raises the probability of activating the Money Pile and Double Dollars Bonus. When it is in operation, the reels will show only Scatters, Coins, Mystery Coins, Exploding Piggy Symbols, Multiplier Symbols, the Collect Symbol, and blank spaces. The feature can be used in the base game, and it doesn’t change your base bet.

Charged Bet

The Charged Bet increases your base bet by 50% and puts extra Scatter Symbols on the reels, which raises the probability of activating the Double Dollars Bonus.

Feature Buy

There are two methods available through the Feature Buy option for going straight to the bonus action. The Double Dollars Bonus costs 100x the bet, while the Super Double Dollars Bonus will set you back 200x the bet.

Final Thoughts on Bullion Bank

Bullion Bank does a solid job of sticking to the bank vault theme without overdoing it. It’s not as innovative as some other Northern Lights Gaming titles, such as the crime game Unusual Suspects or Timelines, which lets the player go back to previous spins.

The blue steel vault, gold bars, stacks of cash, and the solid safe door tell us quite clearly where we are. The coin features make the game more interesting than just having to match symbols. The Money Pile is the highlight, especially when Coin Symbols begin to accumulate, and a Multiplier Symbol joins them. The Exploding Piggy can also provide a helpful boost by adding a number of Coins all at once.

It is the Double Dollars Bonus that makes Bullion Bank worth looking at. The locked rows, the Keys, the Bullion Symbols and the rising prize in the Banker's Vault all give the bonus a good feeling of progression. The feature reminds us of the Bison Moon games from the same developer, although the themes are quite different.

At the same time, Bullion Bank doesn't leave us completely impressed. It’s a reliable, well-rounded game, but without any big surprises.

Bullion Bank from Northern Lights Gaming is a good choice if you enjoy vault and money-themed slots with plenty of bonus mechanics to keep an eye on.
