Q&A with Callum Sultana: Banana Town by Relax Gaming Is Out!

If you’re a Relax Gaming’s fan or you simply love monkeys, you’re in for a treat! Their latest game, Banana Town, came out on July 5th, and the GPO of the company, Callum Sultana, has released a Q&A about it you don’t want to miss!

What’s Banana Town?

Banana Town is a new casino slot from Relax Gaming where we get to enjoy a gaming experience that has been given an 8-bit look. The place we visit is filled with monkeys and during the spins you can manage to generate gigantic win multipliers, which can create wins that are absolutely bananas. We have seen this nostalgic design on previous slots in this game providers Hellcatraz and Santa's Stack, where on both occasions we were treated to a delightful mix of nostalgic 8-bit design and newly created features.

This time it is the clash between multiplier upgraders and free spins that can help the player generate wins of up to 10000X the bet. Let's visit this site and find out what you can expect to see during the spins.

Q&A with Relax Gaming’s GPO Callum Sultana

1. Banana Town brings unique monkey mafia characters to game screens, can you explain the thought process behind them?

We’re always looking for fresh ways of using visuals to bring out the essence of mechanics in our games and add a Relax-twist to different themes, and Banana Town was no different. The initial idea was to have the game set in Gibraltar, given its igaming presence and relevance. We planned on having a gang of monkeys protect their rock by giving trespassers a hard time, but that narrative didn’t give us enough to work with from a visual stand point, and we never settle for ‘good enough’. In the end, we wanted to retain elements of the narrative whilst giving the monkeys their own characteristics, humanising them and instilling more personality, this ultimately led us to the monkey mafia concept we have today.

2. Walk us through the mechanics, what do you think players will enjoy most about Banana Town?

Mechanically, this is a straightforward game, making it very user-friendly and easy to understand how and how much players could win. The game uses a scatter pay mechanic that our audience would have seen in the player-favourite title Volatile Vikings, along with a progressive multiplier feature on each symbol. The feature is available in both the Base Game and in Free Spins where for every win, the multiplier on the winning symbol will double, maxing out at 64x!

In Free Spins, the multiplier feature is progressive for all spins. The game can randomly assign ‘pre-loaded’ multipliers at the start of any Base Game spin too, and if you trigger Free Spins, you’ll carry them into the bonus round as well. All in all, we think players will be able to enjoy an easy-to-follow game flow, with an achievable win cap and lots of high multipliers along the way!

3. We see the use of a style that is simultaneously retro and contemporary here, why was this low polygon style chosen for the game?

We enjoy working with this art style for a few different reasons. Firstly, our main demographic has grown up playing console and computer games that share a very similar design, adding a sense of nostalgia to these contemporary games (especially in the case of our monkey theme). Secondly, we wanted to differentiate from the monkey-themed slots that are currently on the market, for this reason, we diverted from the common narrative and art style and brought a Relax flair to the subject.
