Introduction to Tornado Rampage

Tornado Rampage is a casino slot from Pocket Games Soft that takes us out storm chasing. Following a news station, we find ourselves right in the eye of the storm of a large tornado, wreaking havoc in its path. Pocket Games Soft took this setting and created a rather interesting circular playing grid around it, which is a pretty unique thing that we rarely see in slots. Coupled with this is a relatively simple gameplay loop, as the studio is known for its mobile-first approach. The features are relatively light with a focus on Golden Wilds, which can stack up Multipliers as they spin around the circular playing grid in either the Respins feature or Free Spins bonus game. So, while it is rather simple, you have chances for plenty of additional spins to take part in, with stacking Multiplier Wild Symbols to help you hit the max win of 5,000X the bet.

When storm chasing goes just a bit too far, you find yourself in Tornado Rampage, with a unique playing grid and rotating Golden Wilds.

Theme, Gameplay, & Payouts

Tornado Rampage is a video slot from Pocket Games Soft with 5 Reelsa 3-4-5-4-3 Row setup, and uses Connecting Ways mechanics to form wins, with up to 36 different possibilities. You can choose between making a Min.bet of 0.2 and a Max.bet of 100. Tornado Rampage comes with a higher-than-average RTP of 96.75%, a hit frequency of 38.76%, medium volatility, and an okay max win of 5,000X the bet.

We follow a news station reporter and get stuck right in the middle of a storm sweeping across the area. The storm has been built up as a circular playing grid, with many of the paying symbols being various vehicles that have been picked up by the tornado. You can play the game on most notepads, mobiles, and desktops.

The lower-paying symbols are 10, J, Q, K, and A. The higher-paying symbols are a bike, a scooter, a car, a truck, and a boat. At the time of writing, the studio hasn’t published the paytable, but we will update this review when we have more information. The Special Symbols are Wilds, Golden Wilds, and Scatters, which you can read more about in the Feature section.

Wild Symbols

Wild Symbols come in two variations, the standard and Golden versions, with both helping create winning combinations by being able to substitute for all symbols except Scatter Symbols.

Golden Wild Respins

During any base game spin, landing 1 or more Golden Wild Symbols anywhere will trigger the Respin feature. Before the Respin starts, any winning Golden Wild Symbol without a Multiplier gets a 2X value, while those already with a Multiplier get it increased by +1X. Any Golden Wilds in the inner or outer circle will move one spot clockwise around the playing grid for each Respin. The bonus can be retriggered by landing 1 or more additional Golden Wild Symbols during the Respins.

Free Spins

By landing 3 or more Scatter Symbols anywhere, you will be awarded the Free Spins feature with 8 spins, +2 additional spins for each extra Scatter Symbol. During the bonus game, any Golden Wild Symbols that appear on the reels will remain on the reels until the end of the feature, but will move clockwise around the playing grid for each spin. Any Golden Wild Symbol without a Multiplier will get a 2X value, while those with an existing Multiplier will get an increase by +1X.

Final Thoughts on Tornado Rampage

Tornado Rampage is a silly, slightly over-the-top, and light slot release that seems to aim for something different. As Pocket Games Soft is a mobile-first studio, their games aren’t necessarily about being the prettiest or most mechanically complex, however, it seems like they enjoy creating something just slightly unique, which we enjoy picking up on, such as its 2.5D playing grid in Skylight Wonders. That game might just have been the inspiration for Tornado Rampage, as circular playing grids are rare but always welcome, and we wish we saw more of them in modern releases.

When it comes to gameplay, however, the unique playing grid doesn’t really play as much of a part as we would’ve wanted it to. Instead, it is relegated to using Connecting Way mechanics and a single feature that, while fun and capable of leading to some good spins, just isn’t enough to carry a game on its own. Don’t get us wrong, as the Golden Wilds and their stacking Multipliers are a great feature, and we really enjoy them, both for their Respins in the base game and being Sticky in the Free Spins. However, they feel just a tad too rare or not impactful enough to really excite us. So, at the end of the day, Tornado Rampage can feel great for a few spins on the go, but it isn’t interesting enough to keep us going for longer sessions.

Tornado Rampage is a slot with a relatively unique circular playing grid and Golden Wilds that move around, stacking Multipliers at each step.
