Sweet Burst is pretty similar to many other Fat Panda releases, and we say that in the nicest way possible, as there’s a clear reason why we and others keep returning to these games, even though we feel like there’s often something missing. Sweet Burst does fine enough in its own space, however, comparing it to other candy-themed games, which there are many of, especially from Fat Panda or their own parent studio, Pragmatic Play, it just doesn’t stand out in any capacity, having the same color-scheme and similar graphics to most of those games. It sadly adds to an already over-saturated market, one which is very popular, mind you, but we keep thinking of when it just gets too repetitive, and sadly, Sweet Burst just doesn’t do anything to keep itself interesting, neither thematically, graphically, or gameplay-wise. But with that said, let us move over and discuss the features and the lacking gameplay.
As usual, let us quickly run through the stats, as they aren’t actually that bad, with a higher-than-average RTP of 96.52%, a hit frequency of 28.98%, and an okay max win of 5,000X the bet. When we first started looking into this game, we actually got a bit excited because it was a Tumble-centric game, a fan-favorite mechanic for many players, us alike. However, we quickly realised that Fat Panda sadly hasn’t done anything with the mechanic, at least in the base game, as when you’re on this small of a playing grid, a Tumble sequence doesn’t really feel all too different from a regular spin, especially when even the smallest winning combination removes one third of all symbols in view. This might sound a bit nitpicky, but it genuinely plays a larger role than you might think, as features and mechanics need to feel and look exciting, and the Free Spins feature does help it a bit. The main part of the Bonus Game is the addition of the Multiplier Symbols, which can be really lucrative with Multipliers up to 1,000X the bet, but they also come with the problem of taking up space in an already cramped playing grid, making them feel a bit like a mixed bag whenever you hit the lower Multiplier values. All in all, the game does play smoothly, and there were parts of it that we enjoyed, however, the game is like many other candy-themed games and doesn’t really do much to actually stand out.
