Introduction to St. Patrick’s Pots Hold & Win

St. Patrick’s Pots Hold & Win is a casino slot from BGaming where we find ourselves at the end of the rainbow. While we’re pretty used to seeing Leprechaun-themed releases around the St. Patrick’s Day holiday in March, BGaming seems to be a bit late to the party, or very early, depending on how you see it. But, even so, St. Patrick’s Pots Hold & Win brings all the essential and typical visuals to make this a full-fledged Leprechaun-theme. Gameplay-wise, the main feature is right there in the title in the form of the Hold & Win bonus game, which comes with 3 Pot mechanics in the form of Boost, Jackpots, and Minimum bonuses. Outside of that, there aren’t really any other features, as BGaming delivers on a rather simple game, both mechanically and visually, but at least it doesn’t look half bad. One part that might be a bit surprising, however, is in its stats, coming with a pretty high RTP of 97.75%, hit frequency of 38.29%, but with a disappointing low max win of 3,000X the bet.

BGaming delivers on a Leprechaun-themed release, and while it has St. Patrick’s in its name, it actually isn’t released during the saint’s birthday, but comes with a simple Hold & Win centric gameplay loop.

Theme, Gameplay, & Payouts

St. Patrick’s Pots Hold & Win is a video slot from BGaming with 5 Reels, 3 Rows, and 243 ways to win. You can choose between making a Min.bet of 0.1 and a Max.bet of 85. St. Patrick’s Pots Hold & Win comes with a high RTP of 97.75%, a hit frequency of 38.29%medium volatility, and a rather low max win of 3,000X the bet.

The game is set right where the rainbow touches down, in a small, yet colorful forest, where he’s busy smoking his pipe, drinking ale, and counting his coins. Just about everything about the game follows the traditional Leprechaun and St. Patrick’s theme, and outside of its visuals, it isn’t all that different. You can play the game on most desktops, mobiles, and notepads.

The lower-paying symbols are 10, J, Q, K, and A. Creating a win with 5 of the same symbols will pay out 0.6X to 1.5X the bet. The higher-paying symbols are various lucky items, including a pipe, a pint of beer, a horseshoe, and a leprechaun. Landing a win with 5 of the same symbols pays out 2X to 5X the bet. The Special Symbols include Wilds, Coin Symbols, and Special Coin Symbols, but more on these in the next section.

Wild Symbols help form winning combinations by being able to substitute for all symbols except Special Symbols.

Coin Symbols

Coin Symbols can only appear in the bonus game, each with its own Cash Prize Value, which ranges between 1X and 20X.

Feature Pots

There are 3 types of Feature Pots bonuses, which can only be triggered by landing the corresponding Feature Pot Symbol. When triggered, you will be awarded the Hold & Win bonus game with the respective Bonus Upgrade. The bonus game is played with 3 Respins, which reset each time a new Coin Symbol lands and sticks to the playing grid. The Bonus Upgrades are as follows:

Purple Boost = When activated, new Boost Coin Symbols can land, which will multiply the Coin Value of all coins in the same row as the Boost Coin. The Boost Coin value can be increased during the base game, starting at 2X up to 5X.

Red Jackpot = The Mini, Minor, Major, and Grand Jackpot Coins can now land, and will be collected on the Jackpot Meter to the side of the playing grid. When full, you will be awarded the corresponding Jackpot at the end of the bonus game.

Orange Min Coin = When activated, all Coins can only have a minimum cash value equal to the value of the bonus. The bonus starts at 3X and can be increased up to 10X in the base game.

Final Thoughts on St. Patrick’s Pots Hold & Win

St. Patrick’s Pots Hold & Win, while visually appealing, is a rather dull release that offers little to be excited about. We could say that we’re happy to see an Irish-themed release outside of its typical seasonal month, but even then, we get so many similarly themed Coin Collector games, most of which don’t even dare step out of their comfort zones when it comes to setting, that many of them just blend together. Because of this, we usually prefer to see studios try to be a bit more inventive with these themes and settings, with examples like Lucky Apocalypse or Brawler’s Bar. Instead, BGaming seems to want to rely on the same old formula.

Sadly, it’s very much the same story when it comes to gameplay, as St. Patrick’s Pots Hold & Win is yet another Coin Collect-centric game, which seems to often be the story for Irish-themed releases. We don’t coin-collect mechanics, but we can’t deny that, at some point, they do feel a bit oversaturated, especially when it comes to this theme. On top of this, it’s the only feature that’s really impactful, as while we have Wilds in the base game, they aren’t special enough to take into account. The 3 Pot bonuses work fine enough, albeit a bit boring, and while they may not be that volatile, we do actually enjoy the Progressive Upgrades you can do during the base game, increasing both the Booster and Minimum Coin bonuses. All in all, St. Patrick’s Pots Hold & Win is a forgettable game that, while it has some really good stats on paper, doesn’t quite have the appeal or excitement to keep most players around long enough to fully experience everything the game has to offer.

St. Patrick’s Pots Hold & Win is a leprechaun- and Irish-themed game that’s carried by its reasonably interesting graphics, but whose Hold & Win bonus game struggles to captivate or excite us.
