Final Thoughts on Shogun Skylord Jade Empress
The original Shogun Skylord was a simple, calming game all about Expanded Wilds and Multipliers, with some pretty good stats to boot. The gameplay loop wasn’t all that mindblowing, but it felt solid through and through, with some volatile moments and a pretty interesting theme surrounding it. Shogun Skylord Jade Empress takes this idea and works to build on top of it, now introducing assassination attempts on royalty, on what we presume to be the Jade Empress. The visuals and theming here are fine, but we still prefer the prequel’s serene cliffside view. But we aren’t here to talk about theming or graphics, even though we usually feel those are important parts to discuss, as we want to see what is different in the sequel gameplay-wise.
Starting with stats, we have some pretty near identical ones, with an RTP of 96.42% and a hit frequency of 23%, but with a newly increased max win of 25,000X the bet. As we mentioned before, the gameplay loop of the original release revolved around its Expanding Wilds and their Multipliers, which could reach 100X, since the paytable was rather weak. Here, it’s not really a big difference, as the paytable is still weak, but now the Multipliers can reach up to 500X, albeit extremely rarely. This change is a bit more present in the Free Spins feature, where Multipliers are saved as Multiplier Reels for more consistently higher payouts. However, even though the bonus game didn’t exactly see any changes, it did get a new Special Symbol in the form of the Collector Expanding Wild, which will take the total of all Multiplier Reels and add it to itself before expanding. This symbol is perfect to add just that bit extra spice to each bonus game, and is what we would deem the saving grace for the sequel, as the increase in Multipliers wasn’t really enough. All in all, Shogun Skylord Jade Empress is just more of what the original had to offer, and is a fun sequel that took the safe route and didn’t stray too far away from its original foundation, although we do wish we had seen at least some more minor changes here and there.
