The lower-paying symbols include bronze coins and silver coins. A cluster of 5 with one of these pays 0.05x-0.10x the bet. The higher-paying symbols consist of gems colored green, blue, purple, and gold. Five-of-a-kind with these pays 0.20x-0.75x the bet. Avalanche

When a winning combination is made, all symbol types included in the cluster are removed from the grid, allowing new ones to drop down. 

Sticky Multiplier Wild

The Sticky Multiplier Wilds are similar to those of Fire Portals. When you get a winning cluster of solely paying symbols (not coins or including another wild), a 1x Multiplier Wild is created. As long as you keep getting winning combinations, the Wild stays on the grid, increasing its multiplier by +1 for each win it’s part of, and then moves to a free position. If two Wilds are part of the same winning cluster, they will merge, and their multiplier values are multiplied by each other. For example, a 10x Wild and an 8x Wild will result in an 80x Wild. 

Coins

Coins have values attached to them (5x is 5x the bet). You need to land 5 of them in a cluster to get their payouts. These can also be multiplied by Multiplier Wilds. Furthermore, a winning Coin cluster will result in all Coins part of it and their values being merged into one.

Burst

The Burst symbol changes itself and adjacent symbols to the same paying symbol or coins. 

Free Spins

The Free Spins feature is triggered by the Bonus symbol (a glass globe with a key in it) making its way down to one of the keyholes on the bottom of the grid. 

You are awarded 7 Free Spins, during which Sticky Multiplier Wilds are persistent throughout the feature, and since their multipliers increase exponentially, you just want to keep making winning combinations to pop off. 

You can also get 3 extra Free Spins in the same way as the bonus is triggered. If a Bonus symbol reaches a golden keyhole, the feature upgrades to the Super Free Spins.

Super Free Spins

The Super Free Spins feature is triggered by the Bonus symbol (a glass globe with a key in it) making its way down to a golden keyhole on the bottom of the grid, either during base game or during the regular Free Spins.

Super Free Spins works similarly to regular, but both Sticky Multiplier Wilds AND Coin Symbols are persistent throughout.

Feature Buys (X-iter)

As always with ELK, five different feature buys are up for grabs.

Ryze Slot Conclusion

Although highly subjective, Ryze is our favorite ELK release in a little while. It feels like such a complete product that lacks in very few areas. Let’s start off with the overall production. An adventurous soundtrack helps set the tone for an exciting experience, and ELK truly hits the nail with the visuals and animations. A key element of any successful slot game is that it’s exciting to watch and that very much defines Ryze. Small things like the burst animation, the coin merges, and the entry to the bonus game make for a satisfying session pleasing to the eye.

But the visuals and the audio are not the only essentials of a banging game. To have any longevity, players must enjoy the gameplay and its aspects, and that’s what makes us confident that Ryze will be a success. If you break down every feature into individual mechanics, they may not seem too innovative. In fact, we’ve seen the merging wilds in Fire Portals and the merging coins in Coin Quest, but it’s about the combination and how the features of Ryze complement each other. It makes the game immersive, and you’ll find yourself following what’s going on more than you would in a lot of other games. You’ll constantly look at the grid, seeing if any other wins will be made to make more merges possible. And that’s why we liked Ryze so much: because it’s simply fun and enjoyable to spin. 

Whether it’ll be the next grand saga from ELK remains to be seen, but we can’t imagine that it won’t be a hit.
