Introduction to Immortal Charge

Immortal Charge is a casino slot from NowNow Gaming that delivers on a spooky release just in time for Halloween. Inspired by Mary Shelley’s 1818 Gothic novel Frankenstein, Immortal Charge blends unethical experiments and volatile Cash Collecting mechanics into a fun slot experience. Around Halloween, we usually see a burst of horror-themed seasonal releases, and with Frankenstein’s monster being one of the most famous horror characters in written literature, we see him quite often, with examples like Frightening Frankie and Castle of Terror 2. In Immortal Charge, the monster takes the role of the main character, both in theme and gameplay, as he shows up on the reels as a Wild Collector Symbol, desperately in need of the Cash Prize Energy Symbols, which will award us with some pretty good payouts going up to 100X, not even counting Multipliers. This is the core of Immortal Charge’s gameplay loop, as hitting Wild Collectors alongside Energy Symbols will also award Respins, and the Free Spins bonus brings with it a Wild Symbol progressive meter with extra bonuses. It’s not the most complex release, but a fun one, so join us as we explore the rest of the castle in search of the max win of 10,000X the bet.

NowNow Gaming delivers on their seasonal Halloween release, themed all around Frankenstein’s monster and Cash Collecting mechanics.

Theme, Gameplay, & Payouts

Immortal Charge is a video slot from NowNow Gaming with 5 Reels, 4 Rows, and 14 paylines. You can choose between making a Min.bet of 0.1 and a Max.bet of 100. Immortal Charge comes with a higher-than-average RTP of 96.35%, medium volatility, and an okay max win of 10,000X the bet.

Set in a metal testing chamber within Frankenstein’s laboratory, we find the playing grid in the middle of the room, hooked up with pipes and ventilators, while Frankenstein’s monster stands next to the reels, punching the machine and awaiting wins. The theme is relatively basic, but the monster itself looks good and helps sell home the vicious abomination he’s made out to be. You can play the game on most tablets, desktops, and mobiles.

You create a win by landing 3 or more of the same symbols in adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel, which creates a payline. The lower-paying symbols are 9, 10, J, Q, K, and A. Creating a win with 5 of the same symbols will pay out 2X the bet. The higher-paying symbols are various body parts in vats, including ears, noses, teeth, eyeballs, and brains. Landing a win with 5 of the same symbols pays out 5X to 50X the bet. When it comes to Special Symbols, we have Wilds, Energy, and Scatter Symbols, which you can read more about in the next section.

Wild Collector Symbols

Wild Symbols help form winning combinations by being able to substitute for all symbols except Energy and Scatter Symbols. Wilds will also work as Collectors for the Energy Symbols and will sometimes land with an Extra Charge Multiplier of 2X, 3X, or 5X to be added to any collected Energy Symbol.

Energy Symbols

Energy Symbols are Symbols that can land with various Cash Prize Values ranging from 1X to 100X. However, Energy Symbols can only pay out in two ways, either by being collected by a Wild Symbol or landing in an Energy Symbol-only payline, also called a LootLine.

Immortal Energy Respins

When a Wild Symbol lands alongside an Energy Symbol, it will also trigger the Immortal Energy Respins, locking the symbols into place while sending another spin after all wins have been paid out. Immortal Energy Respins continue until no more Collects can be done, after which all wins will pay out, both Collected Energy Symbols and LootLines.

Ultimate Power

By landing 3, 4, or 5 Scatter Symbols, you will be awarded the Ultimate Power Free Spins feature with 10, 15, or 20 spins. The bonus game is played like the base game, but with a new Progressive Meter that advances by collecting Wild Symbols. After collecting 5 Wilds, all new Wild Symbols will be guaranteed to have Energy Charge Multipliers attached to them. After collecting 10 Wild Symbols, all new Wild Symbols will also stick to the playing grid.

Final Thoughts on Immortal Charge

Immortal Charge perfectly fits into what we would categorize as a seasonal Halloween release, as it comes with a fun, fitting theme alongside fitting, thematic gameplay features. However, NowNow Gaming hasn’t fully leaned into the terrifying abomination that Frankenstein’s monster is usually depicted as, instead being designed more as a Scooby-Doo villain than anything else. This can be a bit divisive, as we’ve seen in recent years the explosive growth of gory, horror-themed releases, especially from studios such as Nolimit City. But we personally don’t really mind, as we feel like the studio delivered on a fun presentation and setting.

When it comes to gameplay, the Wild Collector and Energy Symbols are at the core of the game, which makes sense thematically, as Frankenstein’s monster takes the role of said Wild Symbol. While Cash Collect releases can get a bit tiring, as many of them come with rather uninspired classic mechanics, we think Immortal Charge works pretty well. This comes down to a few things, such as the Extra Charge Multipliers, Respins, and the Progressive Meter Bonuses from the Free Spins feature. However, even with all of these add-ons, the game doesn’t really evolve past the same game plan, which is hitting Wild Collectors and Energy Symbols, and it can get a bit repetitive, as the spins can feel the same, just with the occasional bigger payout. At the end of the day, however, Immortal Charge is an enjoyable release thanks to its fun theme, gameplay loop, and good statline across the board, just nothing with anything that will blow your socks off.
