Fat Panda definitely are big fans of releasing Chinese-themed games, as seen with their Lucky and Wealth series, so we weren’t all too surprised when we saw that Happy Dragon was gonna be a similarly themed game. One thing we do have to give it credit for is that it is at least slightly more interesting settings-wise, as, instead of the typical villages and temples that we are used to being in, Happy Dragon takes us to a bustling city, with kids and adults alike crowding the streets. While it is a bit more interesting, we wouldn’t necessarily say it is better, as the game’s visuals aren’t really anything special. But enough talk of visuals and settings, and let us move over to talk about the gameplay and features.
Before anything else, just let us quickly mention the stats, as we have a higher-than-average RTP of 96.50%, an okay hit frequency of 22.83% and a max win of 5,000X the bet. Given that it’s a game all about creating paylines for wins, the first surprising thing to us was that the paytable was pretty weak, with the highest-paying symbol sitting at only 5X. We guess this was made to balance out the Multiplier Reel, as it actually hits just enough to avoid feeling like a forgotten feature. However, we think hitting a 2X Multiplier on a low-paying payline doesn’t really feel impactful, making the game’s core feature relatively lackluster in most cases. The Free Spins feature does try to make it all a bit more engaging, as now you have a guaranteed Expanded Wild on the middle reel and a new 100X Multiplier, albeit rare to hit. This can make the Multiplier Reel feel more impactful, but not for the new Multiplier, but for the fact that you have more chances of hitting wins with the Wild Symbol in place. But, all in all, we think Happy Dragon follows in the footsteps of its predecessors, and while we definitely think there’s an audience for this game out there, we do want you to go into the game with a bit of a heads-up.
