Introduction to Gold Nugget Rush 2

Gold Nugget Rush 2 is a casino slot from Betsoft that takes us back underground in search of hitting it big. The original Gold Nugget Rush was released only a bit over a year prior in 2025, and in that time, while the old gold miner got a new partner, he didn’t get that much in the way of visuals or gameplay changes. Set in the same underground gold mine, Gold Nugget Rush 2 delivers on a pretty simple Hold & Win experience where Gold Nuggets either come with Cash Prizes of up to 10X or Jackpots up to 500X. While in the first game, most of the wins could only be hit in the bonus game, the new character has taken the role of Collector Symbol, with random Multipliers of 1X to 5X, which can even appear in the base game for some more reliable Cash payouts outside of the Hold & Win feature. The rest of the gameplay loop, however, is still very much bogged down in the Hold & Win bonus game, as the Mystery Symbols no longer land as Stacked Reels, and the Free Spins feature is still only there to help hit more Cash Prizes. But, even so, Gold Nugget Rush offers a volatile experience filled with Boosters and Multipliers to help you hit motherload Grand Jackpot worth the max win of 10,000X the bet.

Gold Nugget Rush 2 delivers on a classic theme with a focus on its Hold & Win feature and Cash Collecting Prizes and Jackpots.

Theme, Gameplay, & Payouts

Gold Nugget Rush 2 is a video slot from Betsoft with 5 Reels, 3 Rows, and 25 Paylines. You can choose between making a Min.bet of 0.25 and a Max.bet of 40. Gold Nugget Rush 2 comes with a slightly lower-than-average RTP of 95.95%, a hit frequency of 15.47%high volatility, and a solid max win of 10,000X the bet. However, do take note that the game comes in multiple versions with lower RTPs of 94.01% and 91.96%.

We find ourselves in the same 1849 Californian gold mine as in the prequel, where the wooden playing grid is filled with gold in all shapes and sizes. However, as we mentioned in the intro, the old miner has been given a new partner in crime, and she has taken the role of being the newly introduced Collector Symbol. You can play the game on most desktops, notepads, and mobiles.

The lower-paying symbols are J, Q, K, and A. Creating a win with 5 of the same symbols will pay out 2X the bet. The higher-paying symbols are various items you may find in a mine, including a pan of gold, golden nuggets, a sack of gold, and a stack of golden ingots. Landing a win with 5 of the same symbols pays out 4X to 10X the bet. The Special Symbols include WildsScattersCollectorsBonusBoost, and Mystery Bonus Symbols.

Wild Symbols help form winning combinations by being able to substitute for all symbols except Bonus, Boost, Scatter, Collect, and Mystery Bonus Symbols.

Collect Bonus

The Collect Bonus Symbol will collect all Bonus Symbols on the reels, which come with a random Cash Prize ranging from 1X to 10X or a Jackpot Prize ranging from Mini (15X), Minor (25X), Major (100X), or Mega (500X). Collect Symbols may have Multipliers of 1X, 2X, 3X, or 5X, which will be applied to the collected total before paying out.

Hold & Win

By landing 6 or more Bonus, Boost, or Collect Symbols, you will be awarded the Hold & Win feature with 3 respins that reset each time a new symbol lands, and only Special Symbols and Blanks can appear. All Symbols, except for Collect Symbols, will stick to the playing grid, paying out at the end of the feature, even if no Collect Symbols landed. The Boost Symbols will put the bonus game in Boosted Mode, increasing Bonus Symbol values, and the Mystery Bonus Symbol will transform into any other Special Symbol at the end of the bonus game. The Hold & Win ends either when the spin counter hits 0 or all 15 positions have been filled, and if it is the latter, you will be awarded the Grand Jackpot worth 10,000X the bet.

Free Spins

By landing 3 Scatter Symbols, you will be awarded the Free Spins feature with 8 spins. During the bonus game, extra Bonus, Boost, and Collect Symbols appear, giving you a higher chance of triggering the Hold & Win feature. You can retrigger the Free Spins by landing an additional 3 Scatter Symbols.

Final Thoughts on Gold Nugget Rush 2

The original Gold Nugget Rush wasn’t the most original concept or release, but it did feature a solid enough package to make for an okay release. At least, that’s what we think Betsoft thought when they decided to work on a sequel. Sadly, as the two games look nearly identical, it’s actually pretty difficult to differentiate the two at a glance, aside from the new uncanny valley-like character that has been ill-fittingly placed on the side of the playing grid.

While it has only been a bit over a year between releases, Gold Nugget Rush 2 doesn’t really do much to make itself feel like a sequel, as there have been very few changes in between the releases to really deem it as such, especially visually.

When it comes to gameplay, it has been a bit of a trade-off, as we lost some parts between the prequel and the sequel, such as trading the Stacked Mystery Symbols feature for the Multiplier Collector Symbol. While not the biggest change, we would say this was for the better, as the Multiplier Collector Symbols make Cash Collecting possible in the base game and increase potential payouts with Multipliers. However, at the cost of making most Prizes, be it Cash Values or Jackpots, come with lower max payouts across the board. So, while we did gain a new and fun Collector Symbol, it was at the cost of making the actual payouts not as fun to hit, especially during the Hold & Win feature. Speaking of, the Hold & Win bonus game, while highly volatile, can feel very hit or miss, as while there are many Special Symbols to spice up the spins, they can feel a bit too rare to actually have any impact, making the reduced Prizes feel a bit worse. On top of this, the Free Spins and Gold Rush features are quite lackluster, especially as the Free Spins feel like it’s only there to help trigger the Hold & Win feature with no other bonuses to make it stand out by itself. All in all, Betsoft delivers on a pretty forgettable sequel, even if it may have the potential to be quite a bit more volatile than its prequel, but not enough to make it truly feel like a proper upgrade.

Gold Nugget Rush 2 is a sequel to the 2025 Gold Nugget Rush, introducing new Multiplier Collector Symbols, with a few trade-offs in the process.
