The graphics look like they’re taken straight from a kids’ cartoon with a green-haired soldier standing to the left of the reels. He’s holding his hands on his hips and makes salutes and other movements on wins and features. He is standing in an open landscape with green grass, hills, and trees. The 7X7 grid has a blue background, and there’s a smaller blue square between the reels and the soldier. That square displays all the cascading wins in a spin by telling how many symbols are involved and how much each combination pays. The game’s logo and buttons to make a bet and open the paytable are to the right of the reels. At the bottom of the slot is where you can see your balance. Within the grid is a Money Zone that changes position and size all the time, from 2X2 to 6X6. The Money Zone is crucial for activating the Free Spins. Cascading Wins

All symbols in a winning combination will explode and disappear, leaving empty spaces on the grid. This activates a cascade with existing symbols dropping down on the empty spaces and new symbols dropping from above. Any new winning combination will trigger another cascade, once again blowing up the symbols while new symbols fall from above. Every spin can result in up to 10 cascading wins.

Wild Symbol

This symbol substitutes all the six paying symbols in the game. It does not have a value of its own, so there cannot be a combination of only wild symbols. The Wild Symbol doesn’t substitute for the blue and red gemstones.

Money Zone

The Money Zone moves on the grid before every spin, changing its size between 2X2 and 6X6. It can also move and change size after a cascading win. You can hit wins with symbols both within and outside the Money Zone; it doesn’t affect the outcome of the wins. The Money Zone collects the valuable red and blue gems that you need to activate the Free Spins. On top of the Money Zone is a gem counter with 3 boxes that fill up one box every time a Care Package drops a gem in the zone. All 3 boxes need to be filled within one spin (up to 10 cascading wins) to activate the Free Spins.

Care Package

The troops send aid to you every now and then through care packages. They are blue or red boxes attached to parachutes, dropping randomly from the sky on spins and cascades in the base game. If a care package lands outside the Money Zone, it turns the symbol it lands on into a Wild. If it lands inside the Money Zone, it turns the symbol it hits into a Wild one, but it may also randomly turn other symbols inside the Money Zone into Wilds.

Free Spins

All Care Packages contain 1 gem in either red or blue. To activate the Free Spins, you’ll need to land 3 gems inside the Money Zone within a single spin, which means that you need several consecutive cascades wins to achieve it. You can never collect more than 3 gems at a time, and there are two different free spins, activating depending on if you have collected primarily red or blue ones.

If 2 or more of the collected gems are blue, you’ll activate the Blue Super Spin. Yes, that’s right, it’s actually just one spin, but it can be precious. All symbols in the Money Zone will get a number. That number is multiplied with the symbol it lands on. If the number 6 landed on a radar in the Money Zone, that radar would be counted 6 times, and you’d have a guaranteed win. Every connected radar would add up the total number of symbols. When the Money Zone moves to a new place during a cascading win, all symbols within the zone will also get a number.    

If 2 or more of the collected gems are red, you’ll activate the Red Free Spins. You’re awarded 3 spins, and you’re guaranteed that at least 2 symbols in the Money Zone will turn Wild on each spin or cascade. If you’re lucky, all the symbols in the zone turn Wild. Just as in the base game, it is impossible to have more than 10 cascade wins per spin.      

Direct Hit Slot Conclusion

This is a pretty cute game. Although it has a war theme, it looks more like the cartoon Inspector Gadget than a first-person shooter computer game like Counter-Strike. If you want to play a slot containing weapons and explosions but think games like El Patron are too close to reality, then this is just for you. Don’t worry about having nightmares after playing Direct Hit! The graphics work pretty well, and the soldier next to the reels contributes to the playing experience. Cascading wins are appreciated; just be aware that the outcome from several wins can be low since some combinations only pay 0.05X the bet. On the other hand, you can land pretty nice wins straight away when 10 or more of the same symbols are connected.

The Money Zone is an exciting feature; just don’t put all your attention into it, so you miss what’s going on outside of the zone. The Care Package dropping Wild Symbols from the sky is also a nice touch, and there’s a good variation of two free spins features. The Red Free Spins are our favorite since you usually get to play a lot longer than in the 1-spin Blue Super Spin. The latter can also be hard to understand if you don’t know what the numbers landing on the symbols mean. The feature might be over just a few seconds after it started, which might feel disappointing even if it gave you a decent win.

The medium volatility also tells us that this game won’t take too many twists and turns. There’s a wide bet range, from 0.20 to 100, for anyone interested in starting to spin pink rabbit rocket launchers. One crucial detail that doesn’t impress at all is the low RTP of 93.9%. It would have to be more than a point higher just to be considered average. The max win of 2500X the bet is, on the other hand, totally fine for a medium volatility game.
