Final Thoughts on Cyber Runner
Cyber Runner doesn’t do much to try and be the next big thing or change up the market, however, in classic Peter & Sons fashion, the game finds itself in a rather solid place just for being one of the better-looking sci-fi-themed games out there. But that’s where most of the game’s interesting parts end, as while we enjoy the quality and vibrant graphics, the theme itself is just a flashy neon cyberpunk setting that doesn’t really expand on what we’ve seen before. To add on to this, we don’t mean to say that the gameplay loop is boring; it’s just more of what we’ve seen before in a solid package, which we can’t complain about.
Speaking of which, the gameplay loop brings out one of Peter & Sons’ favorite formulas, that being Cascades and stacking Win Multipliers, and is one that has grown on us over the years. The paytable is sadly pretty weak, meaning that while you have plenty of ways to hit wins through Infections and Expanding Wilds, you really need to keep the win streaks going and stack up the Multipliers to see solid payouts. Then there is the typical Free Spins feature, which doesn’t bring anything new to the table except a Persistent Multiplier. While that works perfectly for cashing in on wins, it’s another part we wish had seen something more added to it, as, in itself, it’s just kinda boring. But, all in all, we don’t think the loop is boring, as it’s highly volatile and can come with explosive wins, but, piece by piece, the features feel like something we’ve seen previously, meaning its charm might not last for longer sessions.
