Guessing from the title, one would say that this game is about butterflies, but it’s actually about something much more interesting. Wazdan provided us with a great game based on an old Chinese legend about two lovers Zhu Yingtai and Liang Shango. It’s a 4 reel slot with 4 rows and a Cluster Pays system. The game carries a great story and, thanks to the features, great payouts as well.

Forbidden Things are the Dearest to the Heart

The legend this game is based on goes back a long time, all the way to the period of the Eastern Jin dynasty. It tells the story of two lovers whose love was forbidden by society. With all forces, they were separated and died alone. This is where the butterflies start to make sense. It’s believed that after death, their spirits turned into butterflies and they have reunited once again. It's an amazing story to inspire a great game.  

The main scene of events takes place in nature. The background is beautiful and the graphics are quite good. The snow on the mountains compliments the green grass and trees perfectly. There is also a small river with a gorgeous bridge to cross over it. What adds a special touch, is the two lovers standing on opposite sides of the grid, dressed in traditional clothing. The soundtrack is very calming as one would expect from this type of slot and just as the rest contributes to keeping the legend alive.  

Some of the symbols include the regular royals, jewelry, different local fruit, flowers, and the two lovers together serve as the wild symbol. Everything was designed to have a very loving and cutesy feeling to it. Aside from the design and thanks to the features the game has good gameplay as well. Instead of the regular paylines, wins are created whenever 8 or more matching symbols appear in a cluster.

The player can bet a minimum of 10 and a maximum of a 100 coins per spin. With everything the game has to offer, the player can win up to 2000x the stake in a single spin. The game has all three volatility levels which is great when combined with the reasonably set 96,16% RTP.

Collect Butterflies and Reunite the Lovers

The game has very unique features that are connected to the legend. First to mention are the two meters on each side, that count the collected butterflies for each lover. When the meters are full, the blue and pink butterflies activate bonus rounds. The blue ones combined with an additional spin with 5 butterflies activate the Liang Shanbo Free Spins feature. The player gets 16 free spins and the wilds landed during them get locked in place for a bigger chance of scoring a winning combination.

Then there are the Zhu Yingtai Free Spins that are activated the same way only with pink butterflies. The player gets 16 free spins and multipliers that increase by one each spin. This means that on the last spin a x16 multiplier is applied which can mean a huge win.

What makes the meters hard to fill, is the Magic Sack meter placed on the top. When it isn’t full and a sack lands on the reels 2-5 butterflies get removed from their meters. It’s not that bad though, since collecting the sacks has it’s good sides as well.

The Magic Sack Bonus is activated when the player fills the Magic Sack meter on the top and then lands an additional Magic Sack symbol. The player then gets 8 free spins with 5 wilds placed randomly on the reels. One of the royals becomes the sack symbol and every other sack gets turned wild. All wild characters are locked in place and a multiplier that increases with every spin is applied. The multiplier goes up to x9 and when combined with the wilds causes for a big win.

Last but not least, is the classic gamble feature that lets the player gamble the wins and try their luck.
