Introduction to Brawlers Brew

Brawlers Brew is a casino slot from Quickspin with our favorite troublemaker! This time, we find ourselves inside the bar, ordering brass knuckles and looking for another fight. We’ve seen this fisty Leprechaun in other games, such as Brawler’s Bar, causing trouble and delivering decent win potential. This time, the provider has slightly turned up the max win to 7,620X the bet but lowered the volatility to medium. Unfortunately, the default RTP of 94% won’t attract players looking for a favorable gaming experience, but it can provide tweaks to a familiar gameplay, such as a progressive Bonus Game and Golden Tray Symbol with values up to 5,000X the bet. Brawlers Brew can’t compete with top-tier releases due to its basic mechanics, but it has a chance of attracting fans of the previous release who are up for a proper dust-up! Let’s find out what the Brawlers Brew demo has to offer.

Theme, Gameplay, & Payouts

Brawlers Brew is a video slot by Quickspin that features 5 reels, 3 rows, and 10 paylines. You can select bet sizes ranging from 0.1 to 100, with a default RTP of 94.19%, which is considered below average. However, operators can choose to use one of the even lower ones, such as 92% or 84%. You spin the reels with medium volatility and a hit frequency of 24.49%, offering potential wins of up to 7,620X your bet. The provider has also included the game’s win probabilities for wins bigger than 15X, 40X, 70X, and 100X, which happen on average every 1 in 73, 255, 490, and 991 spins, respectively.

The game’s design is based on an Irish theme, with another visit from our favorite troublemaker, The Brawler. While spinning the 5x3 game grid, we find ourselves inside the bar, with the speakers blasting traditional Irish pub music. If you want to boost the gaming experience for a cost, activate the Feature Buy or Extra Bet button on the left side. All other buttons, including the Spin and Bet Size can be found on the reels’ right side. You can play Brawlers Brew on all mobile devices, desktops, and notepads. You create a winning combination by landing 3 or more of the same symbol types on adjacent reels starting at the leftmost reel.

The lower-paying symbols are 10, J, Q, K, and A. Landing 5 of the same symbol type pays between 2X and 7.5X. The higher-paying symbols are a Guinness, a pipe, a boot, a glass bottle, and a brass knuckle. Landing 5 of the same symbol type pays between 10X and 75X

The game’s Wild Symbol displays the text “Wild,” and creating a win with 3, 4, or 5 of this symbol type awards a direct payout of 2.5X, 15X, or 150X the bet, respectively. The Wild Symbol also works as a Collect Symbol, collecting the values of all Brew Symbols in view, with values ranging from 1X to 25X the bet. The Scatter Symbol is a golden bell with the text “Bonus” and landing 3 or more will trigger the Free Spins. During the Bonus Game, you’ll experience a lot of Special Symbols, which we will describe in detail later in the review. Now, let’s look at the game’s features.

Wild Symbol

The Wild Symbol substitutes for all symbols except the Scatter Symbols and helps you create winning combinations. Creating a win with 3, 4, or 5 of this symbol type awards a direct payout of 2.5X, 15X, or 150X the bet, respectively.

The Wild Symbol also works as the Collect Symbol, which you can read more about in the next section!

Cash Collect

This feature can be triggered whenever a Wild and Brew Symbol lands in view simultaneously on the reels. The Wild Symbol will collect and award the values of all Brew Symbols in view. The Brew Symbol can land with values of 1X, 3X, 5X, 8X, 10X, 15X, and 25X the bet.

If a Wild Symbol lands in view, but no Brew Symbols are present, the Lucky Upgrade can be randomly triggered during the Base Game. When activated, it transforms one or several lower-paying symbols into Brew Symbols, triggering the Cash Collect feature.

Bonus Games

This feature can be triggered by landing 3 or more  Scatter Symbols during the Base Game, activating the corresponding Bonus Game. All Bonus Games follow the same Progressive Trail mechanic, where all Wild Symbols get collected. Whenever 6 or 12 Wild Symbols have been collected, you are awarded +2 additional Free Spins, and the current Bonus Game can be upgraded to the next Free Spin feature.

Golden Tray

This feature can be triggered by landing 3 Scatter Symbols, awarding 10 Free Spins. The Golden Tray Symbol can land fully or partially on the reels. It needs to land fully if it’s going to be collected by the Wild Symbol. Whenever it comes into view and isn’t collected, its value increases. It can appear with values of 30X, 45X, 60X, 75X, 100X, 125X, 175X, 250X, 2,500X or 5,000X the bet.

On The House

This feature can be triggered by landing 4 Scatter Symbols, awarding 12 Free Spins, or activated by collecting 6 Wild Symbols during the Golden Tray feature. Here, if the Golden Tray lands partially, it will nudge up one position. Collecting 6 additional Wild Symbols will trigger the Irish Slammer, which you can read more about next.

Irish Slammer

This feature can be triggered by landing 5 Scatter Symbols, awarding 12 Free Spins, or activated by collecting 12 Wild Symbols during other Free Spins features. If the Golden Tray Symbol is not collected, it remains sticky for one spin, boosting the chance of collection.

Extra Bet

Activate the Extra Bet for a cost of 100% of the current and experience a boosted chance of triggering the Cash Collect by 203%. When triggered, an extra row is added to the game grid where you can land more Brew Symbols.

During the Bonus Game, the Golden Tray can land on the extra row, increasing the chance of boosting the Golden Tray value.

Feature Buy

If you want to advance directly to the Bonus Game for a cost, use the Feature Buy options:

45X (Golden Tray) = Activate the Free Spins with 3 Scatter Symbols with an RTP of 96.62%

100X (On The House) = Activate the Free Spins with 4 Scatter Symbols with an RTP of 96.63%.

200X (Irish Slammer) = Activate the Free Spins with 5 Scatter Symbols with an RTP of 96.21%.

Final Thoughts on Brawlers Brew

Let’s step into this Irish bar for another tussle from Quickspin, this time with even heavier hits. But what’s the actual connection between the Irish and brawls? It comes from historical stereotypes, especially from American newspapers, which often described Irish immigrants as hot-tempered and prone to fighting. As we mentioned in the Introduction, we get another addition to the provider’s Brawlers series. Instead of fighting in the alleyway, we are at least invited into the pub this time with a looping and repetitive Irish soundtrack. Considering what the top echelon of providers offers us, this design and vibe feel outdated and too similar to the previous release.

The design and vibe may be similar to the previous game, but the gameplay takes a different direction. Although the game has kept the Cash Collect feature, all collecting is done through the Wild Symbol in both the Base and Bonus Games, which is a nice touch from the provider. We often sigh when the Cash Collect only happens during the Bonus Game, so it feels good when Guinness Brews gets collected with values up to 150X the bet. The three Bonus Games are the game’s highlight, and landing 3 or more Scatter Symbols can trigger the corresponding Bonus Game. It feels like an alternative version of the familiar 3 Pot Mechanic we’ve seen in recent releases, such as Mummy’s Jewels 100. Here, it’s all about the Golden Tray Symbol, which the Wild Symbol can collect. However, the Golden Tray increases in value whenever it doesn’t get collected, with the potential of reaching a capped value of 5,000X the bet, which feels very unlikely. If you ever played the Big Bass series, you’ll recognize the Progressive Trail and a collecting Wild Symbol. Still, instead of awarding multipliers, you can advance to the next Bonus Game feature, boosting the win potential.

We like the over-the-top Irish brawl theme, although it’s based on an outdated myth of aggressive Irishmen. Although some changes have been made to the design, we aren’t impressed given the endless possibilities the theme offers. In terms of gameplay, it differs from the prequel by providing a Big Bass-inspired mechanic with a collecting Wild Symbol and a Progressive Trail during the Bonus Game. Although a loss feels familiar, the increasing Golden Tray Symbols, Bonus Games upgrade, and Cash Collect during the Base Game push this game over average, making it an okay sequel with a punch or two.

Brawlers Brew is a slot with both a familiar design and gameplay, but features such as collecting Wild Symbols and boosting Golden Tray Symbols during the Bonus Game make it worth a scuffle.
