Introduction to Book of Abyss
Book of Abyss is a casino slot from Just Slots that takes you to the realm of demons and expanding symbols. With this title, it may not be a surprise to anyone that we’re dealing with a “Book of” game, and if you’re not quite sure what that is, well then let us transport you back to 2005 with the release of Book of Ra, which is often titled as the Great Grandfather of the genre and laid the groundwork of lucrative Expanding Symbols. That might not sound as interesting as we make it out to be, but then we go forward in time to 2016 and the release of Book of Dead, which is one of the most famous slot games to date, and popularised the “Book of” genre with its modernised Expanding Symbols and Free Spins. Since then, we’ve seen many games in the genre, with few providers really trying to innovate, and it’s here where we find Book of Abyss. This time around, Just Slots has gone with a very safe release, utilising a beloved and classic slot formula which is hard to beat, and it’s all centered around its Expanding Symbols during the Free Spins bonus game, with some sprinkled in Multipliers and Gamble mechanics for an extra flavour of volatility to help you hit the crazy max win of 150,000X the bet.
Book of Abyss delivers on the beloved Book of formula with Expanding Symbols helping you stack up the wins in a demon-infested Halloween package. If it has piqued your interest, then be sure to check out the game’s demo.

Theme, Gameplay & Payouts
Book of Abyss is a video slot from Just Slots with 5 Reels, 3 Rows, and 10 Paylines. You can choose between making a Min.bet of 0.1 and a Max.bet of 5. Book of Abyss comes with a very high RTP of 98.03%, but take note that there are many other versions with lower RTPs at 96.36%, 94.33%, and 92.42%. The game is played with a hit frequency of 26% and a medium/high volatility rate, making wins happen relatively often, and while not always that big, you always have a chance of hitting the huge max win of 150,000X the bet.
The game is set in the underworld, and here you’re welcomed by the Queen of demons herself, Abyss, who will also be acting as the game’s highest-paying symbol. From the playing grid, you will see her castle, with tall gargoyle statues as guardians, and her various servants on the reels. You can play the game on most desktops, notepads, and mobiles.
The lower-paying symbols are various runes, including the yellow, green, blue, and red runes. Creating a win with 5 of the same symbols will pay out 4X to 5X the bet. The medium-paying symbols are candles, rings, and a heart. Creating a win with 5 of the same symbols pays out 12.5X to 20X the bet. The higher-paying symbols are the skeleton knight, the demon servant, and the Queen of Demons Abyss. Landing a win with 5 of the same symbols pays out 75X to 150X the bet. The only Special Symbols you’ll find here are the Wild Symbols, but they come with quite some extra effects, but more on that in the next section.
Special Features & Mechanics
What is the max win in the slot Book of Abyss?
You can win up to 150,000X the bet.
What features are available in the slot Book of Abyss?
The features are Wild Symbols, Free Spins, Gamble, Feature Buy, and Ante Bet (Hot Spin).

Wild Symbols
Wild Symbols help form winning combinations by being able to substitute for all paying symbols.
Free Spins
By landing 3, 4, or 5 Wild Symbols will trigger the Free Spins feature, but before the bonus game starts, one Expanding Symbol and a Multiplier, ranging from 1X to 100X, will be chosen. Landing extra Wild Symbols will help you land a higher minimum Multiplier, with 4 Wild Symbols giving you a guaranteed 2X or higher Multiplier, and 5 Wild Symbols awarding a 10X or higher Multiplier. The Expanding Symbol that was chosen will expand each time it forms a winning combination on the reels, and does not need to be adjacent to win.
During the bonus game, landing 2, 3, 4, or 5 Wild Symbols on the same spin will retrigger the feature with an additional 3, 10, 15, or 20 spins. Before awarding the extra spins, however, a Multiplier ranging from 2X to 100X will be chosen and added to the current Multiplier.

Gamble
Before the Free Spins feature begins, you will be given the option to Gamble with 3 different Wheel Options. These 3 wheels are either the Special Expanding Symbol, allowing you to try and get a higher-paying Symbol, the starting Multiplier, allowing it to go up one tier, or the last option, which is to try and get the highest-paying symbol with the highest starting Multiplier. You can Gamble for as many spins as you want, until you’ve gotten the max Expanding Symbol and Multiplier, or until you lose, which ends the Free Spins.
Feature Buy
You can instantly enter the Free Spins bonus game through the Feature Buy at a price based on the current bet.
100X = Awards the Free Spins feature with 3 Wild Symbols.
300X = Awards the Free Spins feature with 4 Wild Symbols.
1,250X = Awards the Free Spins feature with 5 Wild Symbols.
Ante Bet (Hot Spin)
You can increase your chances of triggering the Free Spins feature by activating the Ante Bet, but at the cost of increasing your current bet by 300%, which will add extra Wild Symbols to the reels.
Final Thoughts on Book of Abyss
When we said Just Slots decided to play it safe with Book of Abyss, we really meant it, as many of the game's features, and the overall gameplay loop, are very akin to what we’ve seen nearly a decade ago, with very few changes. However, that is kinda the deal with this genre, as many games that follow the trend don’t really try to stand out and instead lead into what has worked before. On the other hand, thematically, it at least moves away from the typical Egyptian theme that comes with the genre, and it goes well in hand as a seasonal Halloween release, which many studios go out of their way to release. But even with that said, the game isn’t exactly that flashy or great looking, having a rather smooth and boring visual style that lacks depth. So, with all of that in mind, let us go over to the gameplay and discuss it there.
Starting with the stats, as that is actually the strongest part of the game, rocking a very high RTP of 98.03%, a hit frequency of 26%, and a surprisingly big max win of 150,000X the bet. But even with all of that, it might not be able to save a game that plays the same as a game from 10 years ago. We might be sounding negative or bashful, and while we do really enjoy the Book of genre, we also want to see some type of innovation and not just the same formula, as even that has cracks in its shell. Starting with the base game, there is nothing here to really help you get wins, as the only feature you have to spin with is the Wild Symbols, and while many of the paying symbols in the game have really solid payouts, which we have to give credit for, it’s just not that exciting when nothing lands and the occasional Wild helps you form a small winning combination. The bonus game itself is very much the typical Free Spins feature with Expanding Symbols, and the big Multipliers and retriggers can make for some very exciting spins, but it is also something that isn’t new. Then we have the Gamble mechanic, which is a bit of a subjective mechanic in many games, as some players love it, and others avoid it, and let us tell you that this is the most significant change from the classic Book of Dead. Instead of doubling or quadrupling your wins, the Gamble mechanic in Book of Abyss instead lets you try to hit the biggest Multipliers and highest-paying symbol, which can sometimes be worth the risk. So, that is Book of Abyss, and if anything here interests you, then you should be sure to give the demo a few spins.
Book of Abyss is a slot with the classic “Book of” line-up of features and mechanics, set in the underworld.
