Going Underground Slot Overview

Going Underground is a new casino slot from Pragmatic Play taking place in the underground train system of London. The London Underground, or the Tube as most Londoners call it, is the world’s first underground railway for passengers. In this game, we go back to a time when all people, men and women, wore coats and hats. Catching three red train symbols will get you one of the four free spins features or the End of the Line Respin, where one single symbol can be worth up to 2500X the bet. Apart from all the bonus features, the underground is equipped with five spin features that trigger randomly in the base game. Make sure to find the closest tube entry, and hop on the train with us.

Base game

Going Underground is a video slot from Pragmatic Play with 5 reels, 3 rows, and 20 paylines. The Min.bet is 0.2 and the Max.bet is 100 in the demo we played, although Pragmatic Play states the Max.bet to be 125. The default RTP is 96.51%, but there are also two other versions with RTPs of 95.58% and 94.50%. With all the underground action, Going Underground comes with high volatility and a max win of 5000X the bet.

Within this extensive network of underground stations awaits a bunch of helpful tools. The features are Wild Symbol, Scatter Symbol, Tunnel Vision, The Big Smoke, Wild Strike, Shifting Stack, Bonus Blitz, Feature Gamble, Pentonville Free Spins, Kings Cross Free Spins, Buckingham Palace Free Spins, Canary Wharf Free Spins, and End of the Line Hold & Respin.

Going Underground Slot Information

We can’t tell what year it is, but we have definitely gone back in time by entering the underground stations of this game. The London Underground opened in 1863, but we’re probably in the 20th centurty, although some of the high-paying symbols are characters that lived a couple of hundred years before the Tube’s opening. The symbols sit on dark-brown reels, and there’s a red train on each side of them. A few people, dressed in coats and hats, are waiting on the platform. To make a win, you’ll need to land at least 3 of the same symbols on a payline going left to right, starting with the first reel to the left. Going Underground is available on all devices: desktops, notepads, and mobile phones.

The lower-paying symbols in London’s tunnels are J, Q, K, and A. They will give you between 2.5X and 5X the bet for a win of 5 symbols. The higher-paying symbols are four men and one woman, drawn like caricatures. From how they look, we assume they are supposed to be the physicist Isaac Newton, the founder of modern nursing Florence Nightingale, the writer William Shakespeare, the former prime minister Winston Churchill, and the 16th-century king Henry VIII. Churchill would probably not be pleased with how his nose is portrayed in this game, and Henry VIII would probably not be happy either that he looks like the Swedish king Gustav Vasa. Anyway, landing a 5-symbol combination of any of these guys will award the player between 10X and 25X the bet. The Wild Symbol, in the shape of a newspaper, substitutes all mentioned symbols but not the Scatter Symbol, which can activate the Bonus features.

Going Underground Slot Features

What is the max win in the slot Going Underground?

You can win up to 5000X the bet.

What features are available in the slot Going Underground?

The features are Wild Symbol, Scatter Symbol, Tunnel Vision, The Big Smoke, Wild Strike, Shifting Stack, Bonus Blitz, Feature Gamble, Pentonville Free Spins, Kings Cross Free Spins, Buckingham Palace Free Spins, Canary Wharf Free Spins, and End of the Line Hold & Respin.

The Big Smoke Feature

Wild Symbol

The Wild Symbol, depicted by a newspaper, substitutes all regular paying symbols but not the Scatter Symbol. It also pays on its own, the same amount as the highest paying symbol, awarding up to 25X the bet.

Scatter Symbol

The Scatter Symbol is the front of a red train with the text “bonus” under it. Landing 3 or more scatters anywhere on the reels will give you any of the 4 free spins features or the End of the Line Hold & Respin feature. You can try to get a more valuable feature in the Feature Gamble.

Tunnel Vision

The Tunnel Vision triggers randomly in the base game, putting Tunnel symbols on the reels. After they have landed, they all transform into the same regular symbol.

Feature Gamble

The Big Smoke

The Big Smoke also triggers randomly in the base game. It lands a giant 3X3 regular symbol on reels 1, 2, 3, or 4, paying a win according to the symbols’ value. It can also produce a huge scatter symbol, automatically activating the Bonus feature.

Wild Strike

Wild Strike is another random feature in the base game. Whenever it’s triggered, wilds are added to the screen in random positions.

Shifting Stack

The Shifting Stack activates randomly in the base game, adding Shifting Stack Wild symbols. When the spin stops, the shifting wilds expand to cover all positions on their reels. All Shifting Stacks come with a multiplier of 2X or 3X, which is applied to all winning combinations.

Canary Wharf Bonus Feature

Bonus Blitz

This random feature can trigger the Bonus feature without you having to land any scatter symbol.

Feature Gamble

Landing 3 or more scatter symbols will give you any of the 4 free spins features or the even more valuable End of the Line Hold & Respin. If you’re awarded any of the free spins, you can gamble that feature for the possibility of winning the following more valuable feature. The gamble can continue until you lose or reach the End of the Line Hold & Respins.

You will see what feature you’re currently at and which one you’re gambling for. If you don’t wish to gamble, you can always play the current bonus game. If you win the gamble, you’ll advance to the next feature. Losing it equals a mystery prize with a value of 4X-24X the bet.

Pentonville Free Spins

Pentonville is the first bonus feature, awarding the player 5 spins. When a win is made, the involved symbols are marked in a cluster, and the game respins the other symbols. If the same symbol type lands connected to any winline, it’s also locked into the cluster while the rest of the symbols respin again. This goes on until no new symbols are added to the cluster. The Pentonville feature can’t be retriggered.

Kings Cross Free Spins

Kings Cross is the second bonus feature, also awarding 5 free spins. A cross is marked in the middle of the grid, covering the third reel completely and the middle positions of reels 2 and 4. Whenever a wild symbol lands on any position on the cross, all other symbols on the cross will transform into wilds. Kings Cross Free Spins can’t be retriggered.

End of the Line Hold & Respin Feature

Buckingham Palace Free Spins

This bonus feature awards 8 free spins, and comes with a stacked 3-positions high wild symbol. Whenever the wild symbol lands on a position, it will be moved up or down to cover all positions on that reel. Also, all higher-paying symbols on the reels will turn into the highest-paying ones. Buckingham Palace Free Spins can’t be retriggered.

Canary Wharf Free Spins

Canary Wharf is the most valuable free spins feature, awarding 8 spins. A Collect Symbol is added to the reels, and some of the higher-paying symbols will have a random money value between 1X and 50X the bet. Whenever the collect symbol lands, it collects the total value of all money value characters. Just like the other free spins, there’s no way to retrigger this bonus feature.

End of the Line Hold & Respin

End of the Line Hold & Respin is the most valuable bonus feature. It starts with an empty grid of the regular 5X3 size, which can grow to 5X5. The five higher-paying characters have been turned into money symbols, and there are also four special symbols. They can land on any position on the grid, but the positions can also turn blank.

The player starts with 3 spins which are reset every time a symbol lands in any position. The money symbols have random values of 1X, 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, 10X, 15X, 20X, 25X, 30X, 35X, 40X, 45X, 50X, 100X, 200X, 300X, 500X, 1000X, and 2500X. The special symbols are:

Extra Life = Whenever this yellow heart hits, it’s collected in a meter on top of the game. Collecting 3 symbols awards an extra life, reseting the respins to 3 if they reach 0.

Prize Boost = The Prize Boost symbol is depicted by a green £ character. It’s also collected on top of the game, and collecting 3 of them will upgrade all money symbols on the grid to the next higher value.

Expand = The Expand symbol is a blue token with a white arrow pointing up. Collecting 3 symbols will add an extra row on top of the other ones. You can unlock up to 2 extra rows, making the grid size 5X5.

Multiplier = A purple token with a white cross on it is the Multiplier symbol. This little thing is also collected on top of the reels. If you manage to get 3 of them, a multiplier of 2X is awarded. Upgrading it again changes the multiplier to 3X, and another upgrade equals a multiplier of 5X. The multiplier applies to the total win at the end of the feature.

The round is over when the player runs out of spins or all positions are covered with money symbols. End of the Line Hold & Respin – and all the other bonus features – will also end if the max win of 5000X the bet is reached.

Going Underground Slot Conclusion

Going Underground has far more features than most casino slots, and they all have some unique flavour. The five random ones in the base game help make the visit to the noisy train platform more exciting. The bonus features are, of course, even more exciting. One could argue that the 4 free spins are just variations of the same feature, but they all bring something extra with unique symbols and functions. The Feature Gamble is another great – but risky – opportunity for anyone who dares. You could win a more valuable bonus feature, but you could also lose it and end up with a consolation prize of 4X to 24X the bet.

The game’s graphics are well-made, and the overall impression is good. Some of the characters lived hundreds of years before the underground rail network was built, but that doesn’t matter too much at the end of the day. As usual, Pragmatic Play generously gives the players an RTP of 96.51%. Just as usual, the game developer releases the game with two lower RTPs, too, so make sure your online casino isn’t using some of the lower ones before you start spinning the reels. The max win of 5000X the bet feels just alright but could have been a little higher for this highly volatile game. If all the old dudes in this game make you want to have more of old England, you can always check out Robin Hood’s Wild Forest or the epic story of King Arthur in Arthur’s Fortune.

Going Underground from Pragmatic Play is a time travel in the London Tube with iconic British characters and a wide array of bonus features.
